Mine is a HandyTrike from Scooterland- San Jose, CA.- in 2007. I also had an EWheelz 36 (42 V) which looks the same but was very different and was dangerous in stores, so I sold it without breaking it in!

The price of the Elio machine is too low for a North American built product with acceptable quality for the specified model. A competitive price would be $17,000 putting it between the Slingshot and the Can-Am Spyder. It is still a motorcycle not a car so bring your MC license and helmet. It needs a sunroof as standard equipment to be less cage-like.

But you can buy a brand new Versa base $9999 any day of the week or a new Mirage $7999 to $8999 depending on local incentives.
Why would you buy an Elio when the full crash tested 4 wheel car brand new is half the price?

You wouldn't, well maybe if it got 84 on the current EPA test cycle but it never was going to. So you lie about the price and mislead about the mpg. A company that builds millions of cars and has been for decades might be able to make that $10,000 car but a startup can't, not even side stepping crash and emission standards by making it a motorcycle. Heck most new motorcycles aren't that inexpensive.

A Versa Note is listed at $11,200 and most subcompacts are $15,000. A 300 cc motorcycle sells for about $4500 and gets 68 mpg. The cars are getting 39 mpg highway carrying four passengers. The passenger miles per gallon for the Elio and the subcompact are close if car pooling. Spent another $2000 on the aerodynamic body shell and gearing for the motorcycle and you might do 200 mpg. I believe the mpg for the Elio is credible based on the aerodynamics. Ecomodders have vehicles posting 79-81 mpg with aeropackages.

2017 Versa Sedan $9,999. Price excludes tax, title, license, options and destination charge. Dealer sets actual price. See dealer for details. Some restrictions apply. Must finance with NMAC.

So, $15,000 out the door?
I could save up, buy a Versa with 100,000 miles, and make a functional three wheeler before someone buys the Elio corpse and sells something.
