I think the key point you have missed is that the there really is no car to embrace.
Unless I can buy one and drive it the entirety of this thread has no significance, afterall most discussions of vaporware is rather pointless.
So when people are discussion a magic flying unicorn they likely will never be able to purchase they are going to be much more harsh than if the thing was actually down the street and possible to own yourself.
Past experience says most cars from a 3rd party never go to market, we are skeptical because we have been burned before by unicorns you can't buy.

That 1 is big enough for me, I would likely be the first to put a trailer hitch on it.

There's nothing to tear apart yet, and that's the point:
As long as their plan is to keep it in the concept/rolling chassis for fundraising purposes stage, nitpicking the ideas is all there is.

Pics inside the engine compartment, interior, and rear suspension would be helpful, as well as details about the drivetrain and indications of there being more than just one prototype.

This post is almost 2 years old.
Going to start shipping in 2014.

This thread is very similar to all the 2008-2010 Chevy Volt mental masterbation exercises, lest we forget the Chevy Volt Hoax series.
Then once being sold the volt still garnered some BS but it was a different kind of BS and concentrated in FOX news holes.
So as soon as the Elio is in my driveway you can be assured that the tone of this thread will seem silly and the converstations will be much different.
But... if its more like EEstor ramp well...

A lot of us are optimists.
But we're also realists. Realistically, there's an ideal way to do things, to get the project done on time and under-budget. And Elio have basically done the opposite. The only thing they've done right is engineer a prototype that actually works pretty well.
We could be wrong. Most of us pegged Tesla as vaporware, also... but Tesla managed to get up and running... but not without serious amounts of money... even if Tesla fails, eventually, Elon Musk will go down in history as the man who did what Preston Tucker, Henri Fisker, and what many other visionaries failed to do... successfully build and market an independently made car.
But for every Tesla, there's a Fisker, Aptera, or one of a dozen other start-up companies that have failed since 2008.
And then there's the problem being discussed in another thread... low gas prices mean buyers are gravitating back to big, thirsty vehicles. Which means the market for the Elio is going to become much tougher in the following year, or for however long Sauid Arabia can keep oil prices artificially low in its long squeeze on American and Russian oil.
Most of us want an Elio. Hell, I'd take two. But we're not holding our breath waiting for it to happen.

RE: Volt: Not everyone has GM-deep pockets. Everyone knows GM has the technical knowhow. The only question was whether they had the guts to follow through, or whether they'd cut their losses, fold up the operation and burn down everything like they did with the EV1.

Build a car that I can buy. Go ahead. I dare you Elio.
If Elio is somehow held back by our internet criticisms of this or that, they lack the vision and backbone to get it done anyway.

I get what you're saying. Call Tesla, scrap the whole ICE, and get it running by end of FY.
I like it!
(Then maybe later make an ICE, okay Elio?)

I like it too.
That makes more sense to me than building a ICE from (almost) scratch.

Look at racing teams: any group of clowns with money to burn can design and build an F1 car that isn't laughably slow, but none of them feel any shame over subletting the engine.
It's been clear from the get-go that Elio's subtask "become an engine manufacturer" is a bigger hurdle than everything else in the "build a car company from scratch" task combined, and as things drag on it's looking more and more like the real plan has been "live high on other people's money."
