I should have caught the hint with the $5959 price. Why this was reposted 2014-7-14 is a mystery.

If anybody is still waiting to reserve one of these, now's the time. Their 50% matching bonus ends Sep. 1.

Let's see. The price of a 250cc motorcycle is $4000. Looking at the Elio I'd say $15,000 is more realistic. How many people would purchase one to replace a commuter car? Take the sales of Mazda 3 or Toyota Yaris as a benchmark. How much would you pay for an all weather vehicle for two people that gets 70 mpg and lasts 150,000 miles? It would have to ride like a Corolla and crash test as well or better than a Smart2.

I doubt it would be a good seller if it was available for more than $10,000.

I dunno, the Can Am Spyder starts at $15,000 (highest model starts at $23,000!). The Elio would be a much better commuter for most people, given that it (should) get more than double the MPGs and is enclosed. I think over $15,000 would be too much, though, there are several economy cars that seat 5 and get ~40MPG for that much.

BBut with the CanAm there is no such compromises to comfort or MPG as with the Elio, since the CanAm is more oriented as a toy than as a commuter. Anyway, the Elio looks basically more like a subcompact with 25% less wheels than the CanAm which is more like a motorcycle with 50% more wheels
