My mother drove school bus when I was in high school and I rode the route to talk to people, and I had to sweep it out afterward anyway.
So I was riding in the back when it sputtered and stopped. The gas tank was laying in the road in the middle of the lane where it slid to a stop.

I forgot one of the basics of driving a bus: You always walk the bus before returning to base. I drove a lady and her three kids home. The neighborhood kids swarmed the van because apparently they were likable. I was focused on making sure that I did not back up over anyone.
One of the kids was asleep in the back seat. Neither the mom nor I counted kids exiting the vehicle and I did not double over and check each bench. I drove back, did my paperwork, went to the bathroom, and when I left the building emergency vehicles were all over the parking lot.
The boss had never hired anyone on the spot.
She fired me on the spot.

Did Mom get fired?
JK. That's unfortunate but understandable.

Or my fateful six weeks at a group home, where I got fired because a resident got a hold of a big knife, and chased me with it.
Yeah, I never wanted that job in the first place...
In training they told us over and over to never call the police because they would shoot and kill the resident.
Again.
When they fired me they insisted that I needed to call the police immediately.
So, I was fired for keeping someone alive?

I guess there's a subtle difference between commandments and guidelines.
Probably would have done the same thing, considering my lack of confidence for police to make a bad situation less bad in a timely fashion.

No you were fired for embarrassing your supervision publicly. I know, BTDT.

The trick is to embarras the boss but not bad enough to get fired.

I am sure that when there is an incident so serious the police are involved people often get fired. However, there were not any consequences for the kid.

Turns out it wasn't.
I said in 2015 it was dumb, in 2019 I said it still wasn't going anywhere and 2023 it looks like it's circling the drain.
