I really need to update those mpg sites that I have in my sig. The Golf is at 39.5mpg lifetime & the last 6 months or so have been chipped and the last year has included to trips to East Texas for a driving course that isn't all that good on mileage.

Hey, at least it is currently higher than the sig. Are you seeing better or worse fuel economy with the tune (chip)?

It's dropped a little (maybe 1 mpg or so?) but I also got new tires about the same time that are a different brand and seem to be a different rolling diameter (even though they are the same numeric size). They are bigger around, so my car thinks it's not going as far (or as fast) as it is. The factory Continentals were spot on.

Thanks for the info. My computer is reading 53.5 lifetime now so it's about 3 MPG or so higher than my current average so it looks like maybe your computer is reporting higher than you are actually getting as well. At least it isn't me :-)

Sounds like you do a much better job of behaving yourself with yours.

It's become addictive driving efficiently since I bought this car which shocks the heck out of me because I've really only owned performance cars in the past. As you know this car is no slouch and that is exactly what I was looking for, a car that gets great fuel economy but is also sporty when needed. This car produced that in spades. I am so ecstatic that I own it. By the way, I also have a Shark Blue 2-Door :-)

My computer used to be fairly accurate (like +/- 0.1 to 0.2 L/100km) with 0.1 being the smallest change that can be seen on the computer.
The + and the - tended to even out over time.

That is, until I really started hypermiling
(Coasting, shutting off the engine at standstill.)

Now it's usually - or rather always - on the optimistic side as well.
Up to almost 10% optimistic.

In mpg terms, that can mean an indicated 65 MPG, for an actual 59 MPG ...

Thanks, that might explain it then because until recently I was shifting into neutral when going downhill and I have a lot of hills on my commute. I recently read that it might be better to keep it in gear and coast since it won't use any fuel at all while coasting in gear so I'm trying that so see how it compares.
