If you *really* want to irritate some people, take a Corvette and swap the drivetrain with Ford parts. Payback for all those Ford hotrods with 350 Chevy engines. Now I just need the $ to do it.

My goodness.

A clapped out civic with 200,000 miles, is "just a car"

This is not that...
To each his own, indeed.

My Civic lasted 18½ years, 280.000 km and only died for rust.
I may have spent a whole year of my life in that car, all the hours added together.

It had a lot going for it too. Practical, reliable, reasonably comfortable, nippy, economical and cheap.
Its cheeky looks grew on me. I get a pang of regret every time I see one.
To me that humble Civic is much more dear than any other car could ever be.

I wonder what your relationship with the Firebird is, if any.

Bill has a relationship with his Firebird and decided to not part with the worn out car but salvage the good and match it with a better, more modern chassis and engine.
To me it sounds like a dream come true.

Ford deserved it for not making crate engines available. If they had developed FRPP sooner like GM did there would be less Chevy powered Mustangs. but when people can't find a Ford engine anywhere but can buy a brand new, turn key engine from GM it's easy to see why there are so many bow ties under Ford hoods.

Back on topic: you guys need to stay on topic lol. I've expressed my sentiments about this project and have followed it silently. Bill is a big boy and speak for himself. His response is usually "haters gonna hate" or "to each their own" which shuts people up without a long tirade. Attacking people for their conflicting views usually leads to more conflict and junks up a thread.

A long burn-out, yes. However I churp the front wheels almost daily driving either my 2004 Gen-II Prius or my 2010 Gen-III Prius. It gets some startled looks from the other drivers. I also scrub the tread off of the outer edges of the tires even though I run them at 41psi. The tire dealers think I run them under-inflated, but I know it is all handling wear. Old habits die hard.

You. I like you.

The high-strung little 3-pot turbo out of the Fiesta? Schweet. And stuff it into the 1982 emissions-strangled asthmatic monstrosity that was the last of the C3 Corvettes.

As for the Firebrid, keep it coming! It's only a car, regardless of what anyone else says - except Bill. Because it's HIS car. And if he says it's a car: cool. Boat: awesome. (Note: invest in caulk. Lots.) House: sorry about your relationship.

Hybrid: you're the man. Make it happen.

Or don't. It's your car. Do what you will. Full on resto back to factory specs, restomod with modern but related bits, art car shenanigans with Fiat drivetrain, DO IT BECAUSE YOU WANT TO.

Not because anyone says you can, or cannot. Those people need to go soak their heads in a big bucket of GET SOME PERSPECTIVE.

I KNOW what it would take to restore what's left of that original car. Whoever tried to do that just has no idea of whats involved. It would be easier to just order a new Camaro repro body assembly and start there.

Most have not even an inkling of an idea of the number of parts you would have to replace to get it close to OE specs.

You're also likely to need a life insurance and a bulletproof vest. Anyway, if you were going to drop a Ford engine into a 'Vette, what about those Mark Kirby's flathead reproductions?

In Europe the Ford engine in a Chevy issue tickles no spines, but if you say Porsche engine in a Ferrari ...

How about a Camaro:
1969 Camaro SS with a Flathead...yup | Supercar/Musclecar Discussion | The Supercar Registry Bulletin Board

Or a Studebaker flathead six in a Vette:
Update & Photos: Corvette w/ Stude Champion 170!!

In Land Speed Racing, there are all kinds of crazy engine/chassis combinations because of the way the classes are set up. I'd be willing to bet there is at least one Corvette with a flathead Ford racing out there.
