Yeah I had a brand new tarp. When I was lucky enough to get my elk I drove all the way home for the trailer (and helping hands) and then back out for the elk. I thought about bringing the trailer and then leaving at the base of the mountain off the highway but am afraid it would wander off. Still I get by without a pickup but if this new f150 pulls down 29-30 (27-28 4x4) on the highway in 5 years I'll probably buy a used one.

My next vehicle will probably be a truck. Not because I need one but because I love the interior of the ram laramie. Hopefully I can get one with the smaller diesel engine.

Do we know for sure if these ever got 27mpg in the real world?

1989 firebird mostly stock. Aside from the 6-speed manual trans, corvette gen 5 front brakes, 1LE drive shaft, 4th Gen disc brake fbody rear end.

If you look on fuelly, you see the overall average for 2015 with the 2.7 is 17.86 mpg (180,000 miles tracked). The overall 2015 average (all motors) is 17.1 mpg which is up from the overall 2014 average of 15.9 mpg.
This guy probably has the best potential (2wd, 3.31 axle) and he has averaged 20 mpg with 60% highway miles.

They never got the 27mpg rating; the best 2015 F-150 gets 26 highway/22 combined.

I had a then-new '94 Chevy C1500 W/T 4.3 / auto with the optional 3.73:1 rear that averaged 26 more than once. With the optional 3.42:1 gears it should have been capable of 29, though I doubt the standard 3.08:1 rear could have managed 29, would've been too close to lugging. Turbo that to 14.7 psi in the intake manifold, it would be 330 HP and 470 TQ.
These newer trucks have too much unnecessary frontal area for the sake of looking macho. Likewise with them riding too high.

Same here. Not a fan of this new rash of factory lifted over compensating trucks.

Several Airstream trailer owners are reporting 32-34/mpg when solo at 55-mph with the Ecodiesel.

The problem with that it is common for other forums to just report an instant readout. Is anyone getting that over a whole tank? If so maybe I will look at one for my next vehicle. Then maybe get the rare hi-lo 5th wheel that is for sale here.

You'd probably want to increase the Toyota's weight and frontal area up to that of the F-150 'n see where your 28-mpg went to.
