2001, last year of all sorts of things mopar.

I actually like the truck, just frustrating that I can’t buy better than OEM suspension replacement parts like I could decades ago.

Besides the bottom of the doors and 2 of the 4 fenders it definitely isn’t the worst Dodge I have seen the rust is definitely selective

I had other Ford shenanigans here. They placed an ad for a 2003 Camry with 223,000 miles for $5,000.

The Blue Book value is $4,000--for a dealership.

I asked about it and someone sent a text:
Quote:
Ok the toyota you were looking at though is a wholesale unit and can not be sold i saw you inquired a otd price of 3700 is that what you were wanting to pay for a vehicle? We also could take a look at the vehicle that ar eon the lot that range from 10 to 15k and use the 3 grand for a down payment if you would like.
Quote:
Why are you advertising a car that can't be sold?
Quote:
not advertising it to be sold it goes on the website for inventory reason and so the wholesalers can see what vehicles are available they are going to basically part them out.
Yes, this ad absolutely specifies "Wholesale"--when you scroll past the Camry ad to the other $5,000 vehicle, a Malibu: https://www.showlowford.com/used-Sho...BE30K93U228987

So, they advertise a $4,000 car for $5,000 all to sell $10,000+ vehicles?

Bait and switch?

I'll have to look at it carefully. I expect that Ford has included grille blocks and air dams into the design, and that the hybrid will have no need for a kill switch. I will see what information the DIC provides, but expect to look into ScanGauge, UltraGauge, or phone apps for more info.

And there definitely will be an aero topper. I put the old Leer topper back on the Canyon. I had almost forgotten what a miserable design it is. Head knocker, can't lift stuff inside it, and a wash machine does not fit under it. The new truck will soon be put to use to carry a new washer and taking the old one to the dump. I consider usability to be as important as aero for a topper.

22 Maverick: Summer 2022 burned 62.74 gallons in 3145.1 miles for 50.1 MPG. Winter 2023-2024 - 2416.7 miles, 58.66 gallons for 41 MPG.

Excellent. I'm really looking forward to your reports & projects with it!

I went past the around-the-corner neighbour's Maverick this AM, and it looks like it's probably the turbo engine; there was an off-road decal on the side that implies AWD which is only available with the turbo.

Last month I went in to ask about a TJ jeep a local Toyota dealer had listed on the webpage and it was a similar thing. They had actually already sold it which could be expected but it technically never was even on their lot, it was a salesman's private vehicle they moved directly through a wholesale auction only dealers could bid on, so honestly it was never available for sale. Then on top of that it stayed on the webpage as available for a month after that. I don't think it rises to legal bait and switch, but it's annoying and I haven't even bothered looking at that dealer's "inventory" again.

This anecdote parallels my experience with the news media: you can't trust it to be honest, so suspect everything it says to be misleading until proven otherwise.

IOW, it's the same as listening to a talking politician who you expect to lie. So why bother to listen.

But what I don't understand about such things is: why would any organization want to discredit itself by misleading the public? The only answer I can come up with is: there are enough people out there who are either too dumb or too distracted or too unconcerned to know or care about the difference, so the machinations work well enough to keep on keeping on.

I am also looking forward to ordering one for the 2023MY, hopefully they will introduce AWD with hybrid.

On another note, I have been reading in the Maverick forums that some hybrid owners are averaging 44+ MPG

***UPDATE***

I have a 2023 XL Hybrid ordered, I optioned it with spray-in bedliner, full size spare, and trailer hitch.

I thought a AWD hybrid would be coming as there is an escape hybrid awd. I can't believe it didn't launch with that option but they did sell it out without.

Ford reps have publicly said the Maverick didn't launch with a hybrid AWD option the first year to minimize model variation at launch. Considering it was a new product, on a new line, launching in the middle of the worst part shortage the industry has seen - that makes a lot of sense. Why add to one's problems?
