Yeah, but not for $6000 each. Maybe $1500. In fact, it would even be a good first car for new drivers. The average cost of a used car for a first time driver should never exceed about $2000 anyway.

If you buy your new driver a new car, you're a friggin moron.

Unfortunately, seen many brand new BMW's, Mustang convertibles & hi-powa sports cars @ high school parking lots.

Shortly thereafter, to be found in junkyards, which sell the parts to those of us who actually care about our cars.

And people wonder why insurance is so high...

Wow, is all I can say.

All I could think was: hey, free EV parts!

But the type of people in the income bracket that qualifies for "free EV parts" under such a scheme would probably have zero interest in said parts or schemes.

The more the government monkeys around in the free market, the more mal-investments will be made, sucking money and materials away from projects that could and should be funded, by private individuals.

This is a basic premise of the Austrian School of Economics, AKA, the Libertarians.

This cited example is proof positive that the Austrians are right, and the Keynsians are wrong.

Finest regards,

troy

I'm gonna call a big Bullcrap on all the political agenda BS. Consumers/manufactures/elected officials/citizens all have a hand in our state of affairs, so either look at the whole picture or lets just shut the hell up about politics.

My post was carefully apolitical, in the sense that it favored neither republicans nor democrats. Both have done a lousy job of promoting energy efficiency in general, and fuel economy in vehicles in particular, in my opinion. If anything, I have gone off topic on economic modeling theory, not politics.

My point was that it seems hard to understand how spending tax money in this fashion can help our cause of better vehicle efficiency, at all. It is very unlikely that any of these "free" electric vehicles will displace miles driven by ICE vehicles to any meaningful extent. If we take this public policy to it's logical extreme, why don't we just buy everybody who pays a tax bill, a free electric golf cart, because that will help the environment so much more? Get a bunch more ICE vehicles off the road NOW!

The moderators should feel free to remove the offending post if deemed inappropriate.

Finest regards,

troy

Regardless, I'd drive it.
