homeworkhome - I thought of you when I posted this thread. You've got the highest MPG of any Aveo owner I've seen. Your fuel log graph is still going up. Really impressive.
When GM redoes the car, maybe it'll be good for another 5-10 mpg for you

Well, if I had not found ecomodder i would still be getting 32.5mpg. Each tank I just take it a little farther, it's like a hobby, it grows on you after a while you don't think about what you're doing you just do it, it's like shifting with a clutch you don't think about it, just do it. I do think the epa ratings are low though. But a higher 5th gear or a 6 speed trans and a 1.2 l engine like they have in the Aveo in Asia would be nice. I like the car. It's just what you need and nothing more, ok, maybe you don't need a radio.

My GF had a 2004 Swift+ before. It's the same thing as the Aveo, a rebadged new gen Lanos. It gobbled fuel big time. The 2007 are probably better, and improving too. The car was not badly designed, but the engine was not very efficient for it's size.

Hi, Any tips on how to improve the Aveo's mpg to your ultra high levels? I still can't break 33 mpg, based on 90% city driving.
1.4L Aveo

Actually, with the comments above about diesels and CF cars I disagree on one point. Don't go diesel. GDI is right around the corner from being able to initiate ultra-lean burn with a flip of a switch on your ECU. Not that gasoline is superior to diesel, but gasoline is far easier to produce than diesel.
The infrastructure around Diesel would cause serious demand issues. All major ground freight runs on diesel and it would force all of those prices up while manufacturers are still going to be producing gasoline by nearly 2x as much as diesel. It also takes a substantial amount more energy/pollution to create 1 gallon of diesel opposed to 1 gallon of gas. A turbocharged 1l with ultra-lean highway cruise ability of 60:1 with a 1200 lb curb weight and a small solar panel to run parisitic functions(or preheat the motor in the winter) could realize the ability to get up to speed quickly on the ramp and then cruise at 60 MPH on a very few horses off even less fuel.

I sure hope I am wrong about this, the last thing I want to see is the US auto industry go the way of the once mighty US steel industry. it very disappointing to see once mighty GM in a horse race for last place

Gasoline Direct Injection. It's using gasoline like diesel. It allows for enormously high lean burn ratios(so far I think 65:1 on a sustainable ouput). Only downside is its a little more expensive and complicated than normal injection(outside the cyliner for FI and inside after compression for GDI).
The idea is you can compress tons more air and as it gets to the point its about to ignite you squirt a little fuel in and it cools the mixture by evaporating the gasoline. Repeat the process until you reach the point you want to ignite. You could inject no fuel and get it to ignition squirt alittle, compress a little more to maximum ( I think 5-6 degrees from Top Dead Center) and then ignite the hot very compressed air, tiny amount of fuel mixture.
Ford and GM both claim they have engines that are 30% and 20% more efficient respectively. The nuts and bolts are you run WOT all the time and just inject the amount of fuel needed for however much power you want.
