Has anyone ever knocked on your door offering to buy your eco-ride?
And by that I mean... one that's not advertised for sale.
It happened to me for the 3rd time (in 7 years) last week: Someone wanted to know if I'd sell the Firefly/Metro.
"Uhm... nope!"
Turns out he was asking for his son, whose Firefly had bitten the dust a week earlier. (The Flea is now the last Suzuki-clone of its generation still on the road in my city.)
The previous 2 times someone had knocked on the door wanting the car was during the North American gas price spike in 2008/09.
Has it ever happened to you? Or, have you ever cold-called on someone else for their un-advertised efficient car? I've stalked a couple of local Insight owners, but never bought one as a result.

(PS: this thread is not meant as a poke in the eye to War_Wagon, and his multitude of unloved eco-cars.)

Haven't had anyone come to the door (or if they did, I missed them), but had about 5 - 10 slips of paper asking if the "Maus" (Honda VX) was for sale over the past ~3 years. Nothing in the past year though...

Nope, usually my dilapidation approach to anti-theft works as anti-purchase as well.

5-10 notes on a VX!
You just reminded me: I once left a note on a VW Karmann Ghia...

Gas price is at a low.
For the moment.
The attention will come back when the US invades Iran, or Syria, or when OPEC decide they'd rather make a few (gazillion) $ more.
It has never happened to me.
Hägar was a bland 13-a-dozen Volvo.
Occasionally, I do get to chat with other CNG users @ the pump though.
It's only happening occasionally as you seldom see other folks @ the CNG pump.
The chat-rate is a staggering 100% of those you actually do meet there

A friend of mine has a clapped-out Toyota Starlet. Last year he relayed to me that some guy at a bar in a neighboring town offered him $800 on the spot... and he turned it down. I told him to hang up, get in that car, and go sell it to him A.S.A.P!!! Because when I say something is clapped out, there really are no further miles to be extracted. He didn't do it. It wasn't a month later when the next catastrophic failure occured to that P.O.S. I should know, I always wrenched on it- but I won't any more. The next stop for that thing is the crusher and it won't be worth $800 there.
As far as my stuff, I had a Probe turbo once that a guy just had to have, and I had never even driven it yet. That's probably why I let him have it- I hadn't "bonded" to it yet...
Plenty of people have inquired about buying my Songi (electric bicycle) but nope, that's a keeper.

That is funny.
When Frank says so, trust him: there's no more blood in that stone!

HA! Wish I had a pic of that heap; 400,000 miles of Rust Belt/deer country bliss.
