The Dark Knight is in my top 10 list, so it better be good or what's the point.

I went in to the movie pessimistic because I thought Jack Nicholson did a fine job as Joker in the '80s, but the movie is way better than even that good iteration. So much philosophy crammed into such a small space.

Agreed, but that's the point of his commentary. It brought down the house at some film festival, but then it acquired an 'incel-adjacent' label and the reviews turned negative. Messr. Pool's assessment is 180°.

I didn't plan to see it because horror movie, but maybe I will — it's on a list after KonoSuba: Crimson Legend.

edit:
Akkad Daily weighs in, more thoughtful and less enthusiastic than Tim Pool: Joker: A Cultural Review

I'm trying to imitate the pessimistic attitude I had going into The Dark Knight to leave room to be as thoroughly impressed. Joker is certainly on my watch list, but I don't want my expectations to detract from my enjoyment of it.

...I need to rewatch Pinocchio.

They were already starting that way before the label stuck. Apparently the reviewers react strongly to what they view the message of the movie is.

Probably jumping the gun. Figuring audiences will romanticize the Joker like Travis Bickle and see him as a justification for anti-social behaviour... even before those audiences have seen it.

Last movie watched in the theater was "Weathering With You", which was all kinds of eye candy. Tear-inducing eye candy, because as an artist, I was blown away by the hand-drawn animation and effects. If eyes could have orgasms, mine would have.

Shame I only got to watch it in the cinema once... I doubt the effect will be as jaw dropping on the small screen.

Where do I look for Alita... it's not showing up on Canadian Netflix or Prime.

EDIT: never mind. I see it was still in theatres when people here were talking about it.

Good movie: "Jojo Rabbit"

I saw it in an independent theatre... not sure about streaming options.

I went in not knowing anything about it and was a little reluctant because in the past 6 months or so I'd already read two WWII era books (German/holocaust themes). This movie subverted the genre big time, and I really enjoyed it.

"Alita" was awesome, but I left with endless questions.

Then I received a Facebook notification and forgot everything.

Mom and I loved the first episode of "Picard," but we also have many questions, which I also completely forgot.

I'm still waiting some scientist to create the first decent digital TV, to allow me to watch films again. Until then I boycott all films on TVs

Since I only tolerate to see short films on PC monitor, and not in full screen mode, I found Data in Picard, the CGI job, pathetic, ridiculous. Puffy face with wrinkles blured by blur pencil (like photoshop blur tool), and old lips.

In season 1 Data had more wrnkles than this bootleg CGI job.
Pnly the upper lid looks like to got real CGI for deage.

Anyway in a TNG episoded it's said Data's skin could emulate aging. Can it emulate weight gain too?

I binged "Servant", which is an Apple TV exclusive. Very interesting, but after 9 episodes I still know as much as I did after episode 1. The camera work is phenomenal.

Oh, and I watched the latest Star Wars - The Last Jedi. It did as good a job to redeem the previous 2 movies that it could. I enjoyed it. Best out of the 3 I thought, even though critics don't seem to agree.

Only halfway through Mandalorian (Disney TV) at the moment, but it's most excellent.
