Help for a first time ev'r

Hey Everyone,

Im realtivly new to the electric car thing, however i have excellent knowledge in the electric bicycle field; and am good at modifying/customizing electronics & battery packs etx

I recently am able to aquire 600+ of dewalt a123 batteries; some cells with tabs .. some without tabs.

I have a few questions & looking for some opinions from everyone..

I am considering a honda insight as per it seems to be a great overall aerodynamic vechile to use

I would like to power it with a123 batteries that will propel the veh up to minimum of 120km/h to 140km/h

the range i'm looking for is appox 150km+ range on a charge

also does anyone know how i could get this large pack properly tab welded; costs ? ... and where could i get this done?

i'm located in woodbridge, ontario canada.

I'm moderator named as steveo on the endless-sphere.com/forums
where i'm known for my unique 144v 100amp bicycle currently capable of 15kw

and overall do you guys think that the a123s are a good choice; will will be getting them in new condition for about $1 per ah..

thanks
-steve

I don't know what size a123 batteries are. If they are similar to RC car battery cells, the "battery bars" they use to connect them in packs are small flat metal bars with a hole in the middle and you solder them to the end of the cells. You would need to arrange them in the configuration you want and figure out a pattern to attach the tabs.

144v/1.2v=120 cells 600cells/120cells=5 1 cell ~=1000 mAh 144v@5Ah.

I'm far from an expert on electric propulsion, but I think 150km is quite ambitious. Hopefully i'm wrong.

Try a store like Batteries Plus, or search for someone who rebuilds cordless tool battery packs and ask them what they would charge to build a single large pack for you out of your own cells.
Or buy a battery pack spot welder and do it your self.
