18.7 miles from my house to work. 37.4 miles back and forth. Last tank in the S cart (1991 Ford Escort Wagon LX) was 34 MPG averaged city / highway. So under $4 a day with gas at $3.56 a gallon. Trying hard to get to 1 gallon a day (or less).

*Thread Hijack*
Question. Installed a vacuum gauge in my Escort. Been driving the speed limit or lower on the country roads I travel, 45 mph. The vacuum gauge reads high in 3rd gear at around 40-45 mph. If I upshift to 4th gear (OD) and the torque converter locks up it drops the vacuum reading down. Perhaps I'm having a brain fart here but I'm not sure what's best to do. Keep it in 3rd gear at 40-45 mph with a high vacuum reading OR drop it into 4th gear resulting in lower revs but also lower vacuum? Sorry, didn't want to start a whole new thread on the subject.

68.3 miles each way, at ~37.5 MPG avg (summer + winter).

3.64 gal/day @ $3.49 = $12.75/day.

15 miles round trip, at 12.5 - 13 mpg. That's about 1.2 gallons per day, or about $4.60 per day, based on the $3.85 I paid for my last tank of 93 octane.

$30/month, but free with a student ID. Hopefully I'll get a bicycle put together so I can start riding when the weather warms up.

I decided not to get a parking permit, ($175/yr), so I have to ride the bus or pay for hourly parking. That makes riding the bus the most convenient option, and being lazy, I usually do whatever's most convenient.

I used to drive 25,000+ miles a year, now probably under 10,000. Saves me so much money, I can buy better tires for the race car.

Over one year, 10,000 miles @52 MPG ~ 40 miles/work day ~0.8 gal/work day

My work is ~20 miles each work day but I also go out for lunch and run other errands as needed.

42 miles round trip = ~ one gal of gas per day. So I look at the pump on the way by each day and go $3.44 to get the privilege of working today.

As my MPG's head up past 45 they should keep even or surpass the rising gas costs

Side note warm weather is very nice. Getting commutes over 45 MPG

52 miles round trip for me. This winter it cost about $8.50/day, using my tacoma @ 21.5+/-mpg. In the summer my Kawasaki gets around 56-58 mpg. I just got a car (sunfire) for commuting to and from work. I will more than likely retire the Kawaski (my hands/arms can't take the vibration any more) and limit the use of the tacoma (snow days) for commuting.

8/10ths of a gallon of diesel fuel for a 48 mile round trip commute... guess that's a bit more than $3/day at current prices
