NEDC is/was a rubbish test. Especially for anything with a battery.

EPA rates the 918 at 3.5 l/100km combined gas/electric, down to 11 l/100km on gasoline only (city/highway), and 9.8 l/100km on the highway.

The CR-Z is a great little sport compact saddled with the worst hybrid system in the world. Absolutely gutless performance and the fuel economy benefits of the hybrid system are questionable. It's basically a glorified stop start system that gives you a smidge more power when you floor it... but only in five second bursts.

Is that all it gets? The Insight can sustain low levels of assist for 5-10 minutes.

Real as anything in this simulacrum world. There are/were two, a red one and a silver one.

I have an Volvo V60 D6 plug in hybrid.

0 to 62mph (100km/h) with launch control is 5.5 seconds.
0 to 93mph (150km/h) with launch control is 11,8 seconds.
Top speed is 150mph (240km/h).
It has 285hp (up to 150km/h) weights 2000 kg.
If you chip it. It is 2 seconds faster to 150km/h!

If you drive it ecomodder style. You do get 50km on a single charge. If you hypermile the **** out of it you can do with a full battery and an diesel cunsumption of les then 2l/100km for the first 100km. After that it does around 4l/100km if you drive slower then 56mpg (90km/h).

It has an 45liter tank and will do a lot of distance in hypermile.

Here you see on the right the guese o meter of distance to empty tank. Only 1 full charge done. 1500km on a single tank is possible without recharging!

This is the dyno run to messure the wheel horespower.
560Nm and 271hp!

Previous car. SUV. From 2011+ 10l/100km to 2017 5,516l/100km.
2017 without holiday: 5,397l/100km
EPA Rated average: 8,1l/100km

Current ride: plug in 285hp hybrid
EPA Rated average: 2,8l/100km

That's full power. Good enough to drop the 0-62 mph times by about a second and a half. I believe they limit it to preserve the motors and batteries.

The amount of time it can sustain modest assist, on the other hand, is unknown to me. But I do recall that the AC compressor couldn't run with the engine off... which, in a tropical country with some of the worst traffic in the world, is the number one reason people have for buying a hybrid.

...with a mild hybrid created by adding a Buick laCrosse altermotor to the Type IV boxer mid-engine.

As for a production hybrid sports car, Toyota could have implemented the Alessandro Volta as early as 2004:

It has a well proven drive train out of a Highlander/LX400h SUV swapped end-for-end, with the V-6 in back. I have an example of the 68hp electric [rear] axle that may go in a VW Beetle some day.
Wow! I like the Beetle-inspired design of the Roadster 2.7.

What about dropping a Prius drivetrain into the MR2? It was quite surprising to me that Toyota didn't even try.

My guess is because they were killing the MR2 off.
