It might depend on the car. When starting to coast in EOC I switch off the engine by key and 2 seconds later start ignition again, because breaking and blinking light should work. In these two seconds my odo doesn't count. I compared odo, ScanGauge and GPS. Now I know that my ScanGauge counts all while my odo is about 5% less. For counting my MPG I use what ScanGauge tells me always at fill-ups.

When you EOC, are you coasting with the ignition OFF but the key still unlocked? Obviously unlocked, or you'd be a news item. Sorry, facepalm.

But my car with the ignition OFF, the speedo and odometer (both parts, trip and main) don't work. So I turn off just long enough to shut the engine down, then key back ON so the odo registers. I've never seen an odometer that split how the trip and the main worked, but I have never owned a Chevy either so my exposure is limited.

Hi elhigh,
as breaking light only works with ignition ON I do the same as you. After that the machine stopped I switch on ignition again and am coasting with ignition ON.

I'm using two odos, the built in and my ScanGauge is counting too. While the built in odo stops counting while ignition is off my ScanGauge goes on showing speed and counting the miles.

Much cheaper here just to replace your tyres when they wear out!
So many people would get arrested here in the U.S. for that. Sounds like a REASONABLE idea though, lots of people just do not give a f**k about their cars, and watching their driving styles: Their lives or the lives of the people around them. Having taken a family vacation to Germany and other neighboring countries recently, it was amazing how much better their drivers are. It was also a pleasant surprise to see VERY few police, just speed cameras. I would much prefer that system to ours.

I wouldn't be worried about turbo heat with EOC'ing, but I WOULD be worried about lubrication. If the engine stops, the oil flow is probably stopped too. I think some new cars continue circulating oil through the turbo after shutdown, but don't count on it.

Hey, at least you can break 40 mpg when it rains. Makes my avatar kind of ironic.

Anyways what I was saying is the trip computer doesn't add any distance when EOC. I need to use odometer and subtract to figure out how many miles I have actually driven. I do typically fill up at same pump everytime. So I can try to trickle in my usual extra gallon.
Can't you remove the limiter? Just so stupid they decided to put that thing in there. The manual transmission version has more range than the automatic? OH NO, we can't let that happen. The ONLY reason I could see that they did that would be to make sure people who do low mileage don't have the same old gas in their tanks for too long.

My Cruze may just fall out of the 50+ with this next tank 340 miles of ac use on a trip and got wind in my face both ways. 45 mpg...average speed before hitting a section of road work was 65 mph. Can't complain much for a car rated 42 mpg highway though and not even on the LRR tires.

Want to know something funny? I just drove back home in the pouring rain and got 41.1 mpg, oh yea, and the scangauge was pessimistic! You may be falling out of 50 mpg tanks, but I just broke my first tank mpg goal of 40 mpg! I got 40.7 mpg.

Congrats on the 40. Next stop 50 for you? I have always been intrigued by the fact nobody gets great mpg with v6s but then I spotted your posts a while back. Motivated me to push for 30 in the Exploder. Aero brick and I can almost make it. Seems if a vehicle that size can get 30 a mid size sedan should be getting 40 with proper gear ratios and an ecominded driver.

Winter is almost here so 50 will become difficult for the Cruze anyways. Probably be put in the garage for the most part.

Yay!

Is it the exploder that just about every single one of them on the road has a cracked tailgate, or is that the expedition?

I set my (seemingly unrealistic, but maybe not?) mpg goals a while back:

Trip: 45, 50, 55
Tank: 40, 45, 50

I have already achieved my stage one goals for both trip and tank. My next TWO steps are 50 trip mpg and 45 tank mpg.

No matter how unbelievable the goals they are still realistic. Your pushing numbers nobody sees with a v6. The explorer doesnt have any cracks that I know of. Just cracked coil spring that all of them apparently have. Almost as prevelant as the PCV failures on the Cruze. I expect mine to go again before I'm out of power train warranty.

Well winter is here as I watch my mileage drop I delve deeper into the ideas and projects on this page. From 70 degree weather 50-52 mpg down to 30 degree weather 40-42 mpg. I just recently threw an upper grill block on. Seems to have bumped me up to the middle. Right about 46 most drives. I would like to achieve 48-50 go sustain. My goal of 50+ average.
