The Vue - '03 Saturn Vue

I love my vue

I've had the saturn vue for approximately 3 months now, haven't been hypermiling much because most of my driving is at school, short distances. I figure filling up once every 20 days isn't too bad.

Anyway, ive been hovering in the low 20's for mpg with this vehicle... low mark of 13 mpg... still wondering about that one.

anywho, i just came home for a short break. 381 mile trip, decided to p&g and dwl the whole way... its super easy with cruise control, just set the high point at cruise and let the car pulse for you (resume button). I never accelerated up hills, i'd set cruise to 53 and let it climb the hill. Pulses were between 50 and 60 mph, average speed for this trip came out to 51 mph.

I pulled 35 mpg out of this midsize suv, made the whole trip using a little over 3/4 of a tank. Can't really say im dissapointed. Granted the corolla hit 35 mpg without trying, but doing it in a vehicle this size has me feeling pretty good.

This car is not modified in any way btw... just the stereo.

technique ftw

forgot to add. its a 2003 vue, 5 speed 4 cyl... I beat the highway epa for the 2009 vue green line by 3 mpg ...suckers.

Way to go!

My parents have a 03 VUE V6 AWD. The best we ever got out of it was 27 mpg. But that was with 4 people in it and extra cargo on the roof.

I used to work at a Saturn dealership and I loved driving the VUEs with the manual transmissions.

I have driven several variations of the Vue, but not a manual version -- I say excellent choice. The 2.2L is quite efficient for a small utility. When transporting 4+ adults and cargo, the 4-banger (auto) was a real hit with the fam. I will admit that I enjoy having driven it. The FE per passenger plus cargo capacity is very good. Throw-in a Honda V-6, and it easily becomes a rocket (literally one of the first GM/Honda collaborations).

Then, they imported the Opel/Vauxhall version and it all went to crap, IMHO. 6-speed auto and everything, it doesn't compare.

Enjoy the efficiency...

Nice! Kudos to Saturn for offering a manual in their SUV! If I needed more space, an I4 manual small suv would be top on my shopping list. Or maybe an I4 manual Ranger.

my 5spd. mustang has cruise... had... speedo gear walked down the shaft so it doesn't mesh with my VSS now. The car doesn't know its speed, and neither do I.

Congrats on the good mpgs!!! My wife wants a vue; I argue that she doesn't need the space. If she got a 5spd like yours, I'd be happier about it!

Sorry, I've never owned a MT car unfortunately. I was under a false impression, sorry . Congrats on the great FE though! Sadly I can't even do that in my little coupe.

Wait, an American driving an SUV with an MT? And a four-banger? I'm calling troll...

Dude, that rocks. Space, convenience and fuel efficiency can indeed mix. Nice one.

The 2005 Subaru Impreza and 1989 Toyota 4Runner that I have owned in the past were both 5-speeds with cruise control. It's not a weird thing. There's basically an extra switch to deactivate it when you press the clutch pedal.

If I had known the Vue could be had with a 5-speed, I'd have included it on my car shopping list last year.
