^ That must be an Adler 2.5 Autobahn, so called because it could do maintain high speed on the then new Autobahn stretches in Germany.

The problem with the solid truck would be turning radius. Even with both front axles steering, they don't turn as sharp as a full semi tractor-trailer which can make a u=turn in the length of the trailer + about 4'. It sure seems that moving panels could be done to fill the tractor-trailer gap.

Laws don't allow overly long rigid vehicles, so such design would compromise capacity. In most of the world you can't have more than ~12 meters lorry or a trailer (though f.e. Sweden allows up to 24 m) and from the limited data that I saw, that's the most popular trailer size.
Though not all payloads are volume-limited and I guess there would be place for such truck too.
Laws aside, wouldn't steering rear wheels work well?

gumby79 -- Take a sheet of material (aluminum, fiberglass or Polymetal) the length and height of the side, twist it and cut the top curve. If it doesn't match the contour it will improve it. Maybe.
Technically, it's a sector of an hyperbolic paraboloid.
