Love the overall body design & shape, especially if a rear backglass were incorporated.

There's enough taper in the cabin you can see anything more than [five feet] behind the car. Your classic bubble-top coupe.

Yesterday I saw a first-gen Honda Insight in a parking lot that was that same color. As close as most of us will get to a $$$upercar.

It put me off, that sound and the ATB width tires... Is it a car or a velomobile?

I was thinking that they could have made it 1.5 times larger to make it more like a marketable car.

Maybe the next one will be more real world looking.

Other than that I love it.

Just don't want to die in it.

I couldn't hear the little diesel engine over the wind noise. It shouldn't be louder than a Prius.

At 0:09s — I have problems rolling down my door window, too.

Xl1

My guess,is that VW was going for remarkable efficiency, and this guided all parameters of the design.
The 2011 version was Cd 0.186,16.1 sq-ft frontal area,for a drag index of CdA 2.994 sq-ft,and 261-mpg hwy.
With garden-variety mirrors,it's Cd could grow to 0.201.
The larger XT Sport, with 'real' tires degrades to Cd 0.26,and that's without mirrors as well.

XL1 was a commercial implementation of the earlier concept. Things like hollow gears in the transmission, single seating and the side-hinge door weren't possible even at $$$upercar prices.

I think I should have posted Cd 0.26 for the XL Sport. There is no XT Sport
The original 2006 1-Liter VW was Cd 0.159.

With that narrow track it's no wonder they licensed it the 'wobbly one'

This is the car Aerohead mentioned.

The Ducati-Powered VW XL Sport Is a Slice of Ultralight Two-Cylinder Awesomeness
October 1, 2014
https://blog.caranddriver.com/the-du...r-awesomeness/

Quote:
Using the compact, carbon-fiber structure of the XL1, the XL Sport is a dream car for number freaks. At 1962 pounds, the XL Sport is heavier than the 1753-pound XL1. Fitting a motor-actuated rear spoiler underscores the fact that low weight wasn’t as much of a priority as it is in the XL1, of which just 250 will be built. The XL Sport’s aerodynamics suffer due to wider tires, the need for downforce, and its hearty appetite for fresh air.
Quote:
It stands on 205/40-18 front and 265/35-18 rear tires and forged-magnesium wheels. Compare the rubber with the XL1’s 115/80-15 and 145/55-16 meats, and the increased drag—the claimed coefficient rises from 0.189 to 0.258—can be viewed with a charitable eye. And even so, this is perhaps the lightest and most aerodynamically efficient sports car on the planet.
