Getting down and dirty

Well folks, I decided in light of the wedding I have to go to in MN this weekend, and the lack of time I had to prepare, It's time to get down and dirty with the mods. For a while now I've been wanting to block off those fog lamp and tow hook holes. So a little black wrapping paper and some clear tape and we are in business. Going to take it for a test drive to work this evening to see if it's all going to stay on. Hopefully it will give me an idea if it's a mod worth the effort to make permanent. Oh, BTW the multi colored bumper is due to the fact that it was raining when I took the pics.

Highest tank to date!

467.2miles on one tank at 25.09MPG's
I'm back from the wedding in Minnesota and boy was it a blast(The driving that is). Managed to hit my highest tank to date at 467.2miles and 25.09MPG's, that's 87.2miles farther than this baby should be able to go and I still had 1.4 gallons to left. I would say that covering over those tow hook and fog lamp holes is well worth the effort. I noticed an immediate reduction in wind noise and enjoyed watching the MPG's hit 50+ headed down hills.

Here's one leg of the trip from a rest stop to the south end of Minneapolis. The scan gauge in the end was reading a few % high so compensating for that it should read about 27.55MPG's.

Outstanding work man, I don't know if I would be brave enough to push my tank that far. I find it hard to squeeze more than 18.25 gallons in (which means I'm not draining it all the way and that's filling the filler neck too). I just moved to GA for a while and am hating having to run my AC all the time just to keep the interior tolerable. I've been walking/bicycling as much as I can to keep from using the gas pig, but it's been hard with the heat lately.

Rear Wheel Deflectors

Ok, so I'm considering rear wheel deflectors and was wondering if the group found them to be useful and what design works best? I did some digging in the search and didn't really find the answer so I figured I would test everyones memory. The picture below is what I have to work with location wise, I listed a few of the designs that popped in to my head reguarding the configuration. Let me know what you think is best and please chime in if there is a better choice.

First Rear Wheel Deflector installed

Ok, so I decided to go with option one and try to channel the air between the tires so they are angled in slightly. Figured it might reduce the wake behind the car a bit if you reduce the air being pushed out. Right now it looks kind of fugly, but I plan on trimming them up a bit to style them and give them a nice coat of paint to blend it in. Just figured I would get it installed and see what it does.
