ScanGaugeII results

Got my ScanGaugeII in the mail the other day. Ran a few quick tests with the Jeep (Skid plate not installed yet).

EPA Highway = 19mpg
Actual 55mph = 27mpg

Not bad for only adding a partial grill block(only 4 in due to warm days)/removing roof rack cross bars. can't wait to see when I finish the underbody.

I also found the 98 Cherokee does have fuel cutoff (only got it to trigger twice for a half second)

Finished Building/Mounting the skid plate. I'll post pics as soon as I can (Took a bunch but found out the camera didn't save them). A quick run on the highway doing 55mph looks like it pushed the mileage up to about 29mpg (still have center grill block removed). so give or take a 2mpg increase if it's reading right. Not bad for about $12 worth of parts and a couple of hours of labor.

Now if I only did more highway driving. at least it will make the quick highway trips across town a little more worth while.

Ok got some new pics of the skid plate. All it needs now is some paint.

I was thinking maybe a can or two of the $0.98 flat black from Wal-mart. Keep it cheap so it pays itself off quick.

you can usually get stain for the same price as flat. i like satin because it doesn't leave spots/stains like flat will, and isn't glossy like, well, gloss

i use the walmart satin black cans about once a year on my frame. just a good degrease, then powerwash, paint when dry. hides the frame real well, so focus is on the body.

Sounds like a good reason to find the satin. Thanks for the help.

Ok an update on the performance of the current mods (skid plate, Roof rack removed and 4 out of 7 grill openings blocked). Traveled about 120 miles round trip up to Iowa Falls. Both trips are the full mileage driven up and back. Including several miles of in town driving. Which is why it's lower then I expected. I need to find time to run a highway only test.

TRIP UP
around 5pm. light wind (10-15mph) and light traffic.
24.1MPG

TRIP BACK

around 9pm. No wind light traffic and light pulse and glide.
25.6MPG

Just have to say the scan gauge is one of the best investments I've ever made. I highly recommend to anyone thinking about getting one to go for it! It's worth the money.

Pulse and Glide netted a pretty nice increase

I would say that in city driving it is what helped me the most. Haven't done a good P&G highway trip though.
