Longtime lurker checking in
Finally decided to register and contribute to this great forum.
Up until about a year ago I had a 03 Golf TDI with the taller 5th gear added. I forget the exact ratio but I consistently got 45 mpg in that car.
I kind of regret letting it go. I had the itch for a powerful car so I bought a Legacy gt, modified it a bunch and the best I could get was 20mpg in that.
Fast forward a year and I have sold the Subaru and picked up an econobox 98 Civic LX 5 speed.
I have averaged 38mpg over 3 tanks. I was quite impressed and this is what got my mpg quest fired up again.
I am on the hunt for a VX transmission as well as a HX engine swap.
I have just installed a Y8 intake manifold on my bone stock Y7 and converted it to OBD1 + demon2 chip.
I will be installing a wideband and leaning out cruise fueling to see what happens.
I track my tanks on fuelly and always go by miles traveled / gallons to fill tank.
Oh yeah. My wife drives a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze ECO 6MT. She does 95% city driving and averages 33mpg. Not bad IMO.
Within a month of buying the car I replaced the fuel pump module with a regular one so the tank would take more than 13 gallons as limited by the eco style fuel pump module.
Anyways, long intro but hello!

Welcome! (Sorry I don't add more, but I only have a bit of time and nothing really to add. It sounds like you're on the right track. Pictures of your car? Add a fuel log here?)

Welcome to the site!
I believe you could just do a head swap and get a y5 head and intake manifold and ecu to get the lean burn going.
Great job on getting the wife to get a manual Chevy Cruz, those are hard to find. Its probably a good thing she drives that because I would be getting a down pipe and boost gauge and exhaust If I had one

Welcome, Firehawk.
33 city in the Cruze Eco is decent. Congrats to your wife!
Keep us posted on your project. The ony thing I'd add is get instrumentation: if you don't have it already, instant & resettable trip feedback will help more than you think it will.

Thanks everyone.
I will comb auctions and ads online until I find either a complete, wrecked HX or VX and swap it into another chassis.
As far as my current Civic goes, I am using Neptune and watching my injectory dutycycle as I drive to get a feel for what gear / load the car likes the most.
I figure the lower the duty cycle, the better economy I am getting.
I will ultimately have 2 civics. One will be strictly MPG build, the other will be boosted *shooting for ~300whp* and I will also try to get MPG out of it too.
If the turbo + MPG works out I will probably sell the other Civic once I have it setup the way I want it, assuming I can get good economy with the turbo. I do not see any reason I can't accomplish that.
As far as the Cruze goes, yes if it were mine I would have already re-flashed the car, DP, etc etc etc but it's the wife's and she likes it the way it is.
I drove the Cruze before getting the Civic and thought to myself, wow this is totally gutless. After driving the Civic a while then jumping into the Cruze I now realize it does have decent power considering the car. lol

Ok so I added my Civic to the garage, put in my fuel logs, how do I add it to my signature or generate a link to add?
Thanks!

At the bottom of the page for the fuel log there is a text box that shows what to copy and paste, I noticed he changed it from just being a picture the other day after I mentioned apple devices wouldn't let me view image source code
