Maybe just lowering the car would be nice but I read up a little and found out more frontal area is not always better.

If the "lip" or airdam you propose reduces the amount of air going into the very aero-messy regions under the car more than it increases the effective frontal area by pushing air to the sides of the car, you win in terms of CD and FE.

My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

He has an echo and I believe the under body is already smooth. I could be wrong ?

The front is ok but after the engine bay towards the back, it is just horrible. SO many mods to do.. yet so little time.

I see I guess doing a lip is your easiest route then unless fabricating a whole under body.
I have seen people use a strip of 4" lawn edging from home depot as a front lower spoiler, that might be the fastest and easiest way to accomplish it but I hope to see more mods to your car!

Definitely on my to-do list, but it will have to wait until next spring/summer.

Engine block heater is the next mod. I want to curb the mediocre fuel economy in the frigid-cold months.

That's right! You live up NORTH where it's freezing cold!
I love my California weather but I do also love snow!
The lawn edging lip might work and it's flexible so if you hit snow your bumper or the lip won't fall off
I am about to remove my mudguards and turn them into deflectors for the under body in front of the tires.

Well, I added a small deflection panel made of coroplast as a way to redirect the air, and it has worked quite well ! Temps are back in the 184F-188F range. No more cruising at 190F-195F. Colour me happy and surprised by this minimalist, yet very effective, add-on.

I made sure the panel reaches the upper part of the radiator that is not as plugged as the lower one. The better cooling efficiency might be due to that.
