Those look like the same angled wedge flaps that allow for ventilation or water drainage like what’s under the front engine undertray. They are angles like that so air flow that’s detached hits them then goes back up and over. If the opening vents were just flat, air could get below and above the panel

I can try the next time I’m on the ground looking at my car. I don’t have a jack or ramp or anything

Random update test

70mph cruise control for 35 mile stretch. 6 mph tail wind

72mpg with no mirrors and fender skirts

Didn’t expect the light tailwind to boost that high going 70 on the interstate

For Watt it's worth....

At ?t=730 this video looks at the underbody of the Ford Lighning. I thought the bellypan was interesting. It's basically a full length skid plate with massive corrugations.

The point being there will never be laminar flow in the underbody. It's an open-sided plenum with one moving wall. The ground or the vehicle depending on your point of view.

Suggesting that continuity of surface is more important than smoothness.

Side mirrors removed and fender skirts on

Def hearing some noise either around front axle or it’s just crazy road and wind noise that’s getting into the hole that’s busted in my front belly pan. I’m missing a 4th of the front under tray from running over a literal stump in stump town.

And the ford lightening underside is meant for off roading. Hence the thick steel and ridges. Doesn’t seem like low drag is their focus like a Tesla.

The 6-mph difference = a 30.8% difference in the aerodynamic horsepower load. Approx, 15% mpg.

was getting oil changed today and the guy told me to just rip off my whole front under tray because a small corner is missing and i said that would affect the mpg and aero and he tried to argue that front undertrays make no difference on fuel economy at all...

Took wheel skirts off for tires rotation and balance. This is what the insides look like. I go thru automatic car washes a lot too

No idea If this provides any info. I saw another user upload the inside of theirs too
