I haven't had much time to dedicate to the project lately.
The next thing I need a a MANUAL flywheel from a 240D engine - that way, I can connect the engine to a manual transmission.
I really don't need the specific transmission to go with it, but the right flywheel is a must.
If I can't find one of those flywheels, getting one made is a possibility as well, but that sounds pricey fast!

You can use one from a 300D/TD engine as well.

The 300D flywheel is heavier, though, isn't it? How would that effect engine performance?
I am also not completely clear on a flywheel being balanced to the engine or not.

Actually, I believe they're the same part, but even if it's a little heavier, it will just rev slightly slower. The difference won't be much, if any (~3lbs max).
The balance thing, you just look for a nick mark on each piece, and line them up when you mount the flywheel to the crank. There should be a nick on the crank already, and whatever flywheel you get should also have a nick on it. If either doesn't, you don't have to worry about it.

Try Transmission Adapters. They have an off-the-shelf adapter for attaching a OM617 to a 700R4. Why? I don't know, but obviously they are familiar with DIN bellhousings.

Make Sure you keep track of all your expenses!! This Is something I've been thinking of doing for a while, but never had a clear idea. I joined this forum when i saw this thread and would REALLY like to see your progress till the end, and also how much the project cost you in all! Loving the videos as well.
