Ben's... Benz. You clever boy, you. Didn't even get that. *palm-head*

"Chevroledes" - Ben's fuel re-assigned darlin'. Will it have identity issues?

Nah, S-10's aren't ever perceived as very "manly" to begin with.

I know it's silly, but I did want to try out the hubcaps!

What do you think of Mercedes diesel hubcaps on a Chevy?

Aero-improvement? Or just more rotating mass?
Based on John Shinella's development of the Firebird Trans Am,and his testing of different wheelcovers(and absence of them ) in the Lockheed,Marrieta wind tunnel,I'd say the M-B covers are a good move.I'd go with them, there's good science behind them.

Usuzu?

I have a Mercedes 2.4L 4 cylinder diesel engine sitting in my garage right now. It is almost the exact same size as an S10 2.2L gas engine.

Of course it is NOT going to match the engine mounts or the transmission. Making all that work is going to be the fun part. (I also have no idea how to make the speedometer work right!)
Didn't Isuzu offer a Diesel with the 1st-gen S-10/GMC S-15?
Isuzu built those for GM.maybe the bolt patterns are the same.

Apologize, should have read ahead to see that the M-B was going in.
One of my "deliverance" moments.

The manual in it is probably a T-5. That's probably a good choice for this project.

A T-5 is light and easy to shift and probably A-OK for the torque a 617 puts out.

Although they are "throwaways" cheaper to replace than fix, there are probably a zillion of them out in junk yards, so if yours conks out, not that pricey to replace.

Dave, I think the S10s have a New Venture transmission in them. It's a 2 piece case (the last two body styles with the 2.2 EFI and 4.3 CFI/MFI options) instead of the standard bell/gearbox/tail housing configuration. I believe it's an NV3500?

Regardless, I was informed by my local junkyard that in order to change the truck to a 350 or 4.3 from a 2.2, you just change the front half of the trans case, because the internals (gears) were the same. Not sure about how true it is, because I've never had one apart.

Might be a NV1500, 2500 or 3500. If so, they are better gearboxes than a T-5.

I believe the 3500 has a super-low granny, which is probably useless to you. Either way, endeavor to perservere. You are on the right track.

BTW, I think it is smart to establish baseline improvement on dino-diesel before wandering off into the mysteries of WVO.

Nv3500

The NV3500 only has a 4:1 first gear ratio. It was put in V6 S-10 AND 4.8L Silverados. The NV4500 has the granny low of 5.6:1 and even 6.34:1 in '92-'94 GMs.
