like the mercedes hubcaps, how about a turbo off of the 300D because these 2.4 4 cylinder diesels are DANGEROUSLY slow like we owned One in all the time we have been collecting mercedes and it was terrifying trying to merge into traffic and things with that car. Just a suggestion cause i've seen it done i guess it's pretty easy to mount the tubo on there and it still should be just as efficient if not MORe efficient because you don't have to mash the gas to go anywhere

"Dangerously slow" sounds like a driver who fails to adjust his driving tactics to the vehicle.
There are hundreds of thousands of cars on the road that have 0-60 times in the 15-20 second range and higher.

those 240 D's are more like 22-25 seconds 0-60 Then again i will agree with you it may be because our slowest car we own does 0-60 in 14 that I'm not used to driving slow cars like that but I'm just saying the extra turbo probably wouldn't hurt caause you gotta remember those old 300 D's wer very efficient cars also

yeah! a flywheel perhaps!
I finally got a a lead on a flywheel. Unfortunately, it's out of town. Heck, out of state, and I have a friend picking it up for me. He won't be able to grab it for another week though.
As far as acceleration on a 240D goes, I didn't think it was bad at all. The car was in driveable condition when I bought it, and I did drive it home. It drove fine. Maybe just the fact that I am a more conservative driver in general anyways makes a difference. If I was naturally more of a lead-foot, perhaps then it would have felt more sluggish?
From what I have read on swapping turbos between engines, it sounds tricky and expensive. At the RPMs I expect to use this engine, I think a turbo may actually be counter-productive. The 5-cylinder engines with turbos are coveted, and thus expensive. The plain 4 cylinders in the 240Ds are reliable, affordable, and should work well for my application.

The OM616 won't take boost well anyway, without modifications.

My subaru 360 usually takes 30-40 seconds to get up to 60mph, never worries me much since I usually am driving 55mph. That and if they don't move I can fit the entire car on the rumble strip, its like having a 3rd lane.

The factory turbos had a provision to spray oil on the bottom of the pistons for additional cooling. Not on the non turbo enignes.
