Metro computer swap?

I was just wondering if a ECU from a non-US Suzuki Swift would be any different from a domestic Chevy/GEO Metro ? Considering the emissions control.
I was wondering because I have a 1999 Chevy Metro and from what I understand in '95 the FE went down due to emmisions control. I know, not environmentally friendly. With that aside is it possible, If not is there another way. Maybe via a ECU computer hack or useing an ECU out of a '94,ect.

The main reason the mileage went down in '95 and up is because the body style changed, and the cars got significantly heavier.

I doubt there's any difference between the '94 ECU and the '95 ECU. In '96 the cars got OBDII, that's where the biggest difference would be seen.

Here's my advice:

Keep the '99 ECU specifically because it will permit you to use a ScanGauge in the vehicle (the SG requires an OBD2 computer). Using a ScanGauge to fine tune your brain and right foot will reduce your fuel consumption dramatically more than any ECU swap you could possibly make!

If you want the same mileage as the earlier models the computer won't help. The newer computers are actually better at keeping the engine in tune. If you are willing to strip the extra safety equipment out that will just about get the mileage to the old models. There is probably 250lbs of reinforcements and equipment added to the newer models. There are also a few extra emissions sensors but they don't actually hurt mileage, just stuff to make the check engine light come on if there is a problem.

Removing safety equipment will probably invalidate your insurance though and make you 100% personally liable if any passengers get injured in your car though even if an accident isn't your fault.

Easier mods are transmission swap to get the 3.54 gears. 14 inch rims and tires(get a speedo gear from suzuki to correct the speedo). That will put you to like 2400RPM at 60mph with both of those. That should get you a nice gain if you don't try and accelerate fast off a stop light.

Aero mods can gain a good amount. Camshaft/ignition advance can gain mileage depending on your driving style. Weight reduction can also help your ability to stay in 5th gear going up a hill and improve stop and go mileage.

I'm a little bit lost here.....As you probably read I did a final gear swap 2 weeks ago and then I installed an XFi cam Ã* la MetroMPG a week later. Unknown to me, the inside seal got mashed by a hasty mechanic. So, thus and therefore I was slipping my clutch in a very worst way, not immediately but very soon after the swap.I lost 1 pint of oil. We went deep down to the innards one more time and fixed the problem. Now I am doing this:


With a BIG smile on my face. The car pulls strong in the lower gears and I will have tremendous FE. I will reinstall the Bonneville Salt Flats Racing Hubcaps (okay the pizza pans....) and do some other mods soon. One of them is installing the Ecomodder logo on my deflector and adding the words XFi plus next to Geo.....
