Funny that we're both in Texas. A couple too many brews and we could fall to it over this. The places where people think it gets hot would have to wonder... but we live in a place where we're relieved to have 97F after dark.

Hasn't it been a hot summer, though? The record books agree - we've been breaking records set back in the '30s. On the bright side, my mpg has never been better.

Move to Scotland - you'll need a snorkel before A/C...

I've visited. I remember that it was amazingly green. Toured from London all the way up to Inverness.
I'll put a snorkel on my Hilux. Diesel, of course.

how do you use a snorkel under the ice on the m8?
I've never had a car with A/C that works, and I've slept in the mistress in 24deg C heat in Odessa..not comfortable for a fat balding hairy Scotsman.. but I coped.
A/C is yet another sop (he says, typing on his laptop in his centrally ehated house )

That word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Here in Texas we haven't had a night that cool in 2.5 months.

Granted, 24 aint hot, except at night, and in my defence it was 36 during the day

Ah, gotcha. That is warm, especially to sleep in a car.

yeah.. the "shower" in the Black Sea the following morning was particularly welcome
I do, however admit us GB'ers are spoiled by having the moderating effect of the sea avilable all around us- we never see the variations of temperature that "inner continental" areas (e.g midwest/moscow/Alice Springs) see

I have rented enough different cars to know that some cars think they're smarter than I am and automatically turn on the A/C when I try to recirculate. On some cars, they'll only do it if the defroster vents are selected to avoid fogging the windshield, and on others, it will always come on with the recirculate button selected. (And some cars turn on the A/C light, and some don't.)
My '04 Saturn turns on the A/C silently (no light) whenever the dial is set to defrost--even if the recirc is not on. One of these days, I'm going to pull that panel and cut that wire...
