It might also be possible to still find aluminum corrugated roofing like they used years ago to go even lighter, or maybe even polycarbonate (although I wonder about the fire resistance of that).
In the Home Depot and Lowes stores they only go to 12 foot lengths but the longer panels can be found easily too.

Several threads discussing coroplast as the ideal material for belly pans. Very lightweight and very sturdy.
Any metal will vibrate if thin enough to work. To avoid vibration it has to be too thick and weighs too much. Also requires too many mounting points to reduce vibration. Thereby a pain in the ass to remove
Think about what manufactures use.... Formed (ridged) plastic. That is basically what coroplast is.
Take a look at the third link in my signature.

So due to a few complications with today, I was unable to attach the rest of the pan. I got the Passat guard on Friday night, but the bed liner part is not on. MAYBE, I .may have time next week to try again. If not, it will be a few weeks til I can try again, as I am busy the next 2 weekends

Gaaaaaah!
I'm gonna just have to put one on Turtle now!
I've been working 60+ hour weeks for the last 3 months at my day job, and I mow yards on the weekends, so I have had almost no time for mods. But it's coming up on the slow season at work, which happens to also coincide with the dry/cool season in Florida (where you only mow once a month just to cut down the weeds that crop up), so maybe by the end of the year I'll be sporting one too!

No updates yet. I should have this whole weekend free, so I'm going to try it again. I am using metal screws to hold the pan to the frame of the Jetta, Hopefully....

SO, I FINALLY GOT IT INSTALLED!!!!! A newly acquired friend has a lift at his house, and so we got the full pan on Friday night. I have some pics, but it might take a day to get them off my phone. It looks amazing. Took 14 screws to hold the bed liner up, but its on there. Also supporting the Passat pan using the bed liner, because it is so sturdy front to back.
I would like to see improvements, but its hard to say, because today I also installed larger tires, so the effects are going to be inaccurate. I'm super pumped to get it on before my road trip to Maine next week.
