Modified PowerWheels for racing fun!
Some friends and I ( The Milwaukee MakerSpace) are modifying Power Wheels for a competition this summer.
Last night was the kick-off of working on them.
It was fun!

Try some RC brushless motors. Those things are crazy! Lookup the Mamba Max 5700kv. RC has plenty ways to help with your motors issue. Never thought they were that small, but since they are RC motors would work perfectly!

I think you guys have missed the boat on this one.
Back to reality.
How about a link to the event rules.
Someone makes rubber strips to go around the o.d. of the wheels so they get traction. Or kart tires seem to be about the right dia. - big investment though.
You may want to consider a heat sink of some sort for the motors you choose. Or at least some way to get airflow past them.

This should be a link to the event and build rules.
(PDF file 3 or 4 MB or so)
RULES
Basically, budget of under $500 per car. 12 or 24V systems only. Can't build 'em too big (tall is ok.) Power must pass through Powerwheels wheels and hubs.
We also used our industrial espionage techniques to find out that, potentially, the events may include:
Drag Race
Road Course
Oval
Off Road Rally
Relay Race
Night Race (Tokyo Drift)
Soccer Match
24 Hours of Fischer Price (Endurance Race)

Here's an idea for modding the pink girlie trike.

So, you saw the plan for the trike, but what about Gravedigger?
Gravedigger is so big, that if it weren’t stock, it would exceed the rules about vehicle size! We actually had to call in and check on that!
These motors are from RV power jacks. They are 12v DC motors with a little gear box built it. If they can lift an RV, they can push a toy car!
We’ll keep you updated with more videos in the future. - Just wait until you see the plan for the Hummer H2. Here's a hint: there's no HEIGHT limit in the rules....

That is wild. My favorite power wheels memory was when my dad wired in a car battery. Only place it would fit was behind the seats, over the rear axle. You can guess what this did to weight balance upon acceleration!

Since I have not one, but TWO Hummer H2s, does this photograph give away too much?
Yeah, I know.. Where does the driver sit?
I'm working on it.

Looks like some big time fun.
I got a kick out of the 70's hair styles most were sporting, is that an east coast thing?, you don't see many men with ponytails here in the Pacific Northwest.
I can't wait to see how fast you guys get them things to go.

We're on the Middle Coast, not the East Coast, but I guess we do have a few members with interesting hair do's and don'ts
Ever hear of a Mullet? You still see some of those around here as well!
