Aren't those light bars illegal for highway use in your state? (If they aren't, they should be, IMHO. The dual high & low mounted headlights are bad enough...)

And who says I don't already use IR and night vision or FLIR when I need it?
Nobody. Just seems like having both is overkill.

Well, I actually do go off road at night, lol, and LEDs are amazing, much more practical and economical than night vision equipment, especially for those who enjoy challenging trails at night where you and your group are going to be running lights pointed every which direction.

I also have LEDs on my flatbed trailer for after hours rescues, the boat and the boat trailer, inside and around my horse trailer...

But yes, they all have a real purpose in life, I don't just drive around lit up like a Central Park Christmas tree

I think there's something to be said for that, too.

Hummm... And here I always thought off-road driving was what people did if they couldn't manage to ride horses :-)

But I don't have a problem with lights, LED or other, in their proper place. It's just that IMHO their proper place ISN'T on the highway where they blind other drivers.

halogens

Do the halogens need to be in the airstream to survive heat-wise? or could they be enclosed within a transparent fairing without burning up?

I am not going to blind other drivers unless they deserve it.
The roads around new mexico and texas are not like roads on the east and west coasts. Late at night there is hardly anyone out on them.

I guess so since the mounting points appear to go inside of some kind of enclosure and they come with 100w bulbs.

I suggest extending the light faring as far back as possible or practical, perhaps even conforming to the forum's aero-template.

Inspiration seen below.

Aerodynamic Low Profile Smoked Lens LED Cab Roof Light Fot Truck

If you have to build a large cone as I did for my hovercraft, you can use your car/truck as a lathe. A longer cone than the one I build is recommended, I had other design constraints.

Hovercraft - 4 years of tinkering it's working again - Pelican Parts Technical BBS

Your lights are so small that you could clamp a drill in a table top vice and rotate a foam plug from there. Getting the speed slower than that would make it a safer operation though.

I would guess that there are a good few roads hereabouts (Northern Nevada and the northeastern part of California) that might have even less traffic.

How about this 35w HID available in Driving, Spot, and Flood patterns

From
www.eagleeyelights.com
Get the stainless steel model and tig on/screw on 2 competing template tale cones. Add competitive lexan fronts with NACA ducts property placed (to keep the bugs out) for cooling . Then send them with Aerohead to Darkco in September with a mockup of your roof/windshield section if you wanted to get technical. But the stock shap is decent.
Sounds like you have run the roof top lights before. How do they preform in heavy dust/snow ? Is it better than hi-beam,I hope?

interesting, the new aerodynamic design looks a lot like the stock Ford ones from 1994
