I think solar panels on people's roofs look better than this:

I'm often making critical comments about how we're still using asphalt shingles as roofing material for the majority of homes. The things aren't durable enough and are labor intensive.

I'm hoping something like Tesla's solar roof can be developed into a cost effective alternative, because glass should last the life of the house, and it might as well make electricity on the side optimally positioned to catch it.

... I'll be up on Dad's roof this fall to tear off and install asphalt shingles. Code doesn't allow solar on a manufactured home, so that's why he's got his rack-mounted in the field.

I'm hoping the panels covering the majority of my south facing roof extend the life of the roof and keep summer temperatures down.

Yeah asphalt sucks. Only place that uses them is north America.
I'll never put asphalt shingles on a roof if I have any say in it.

A non-solar glass tile roof is between asphalt and sheet metal in cost. There exist solar panels that are sized to fit into standing seam metal roofs. When I saw it they were claiming half the [total?] cost of a Tesla roof.

Interesting interview with a 'chill dude'.
