Jim did to attach his belly pan and part of the tail. My neighbor did not on his Prius.

Got some more info for all of you trying to duplicate it.

Costs were more in the $100 range.

Mounting:
using two straps and starting on the inside, going from the top hatch crack corners (using a metal clip bent into a U as an anchor point), going straight back to the hatch/ tail light crack. then going through an i-bolt (in wooden 1x6 of the frame) then diagonally to the bottom 1x6" frame (to another i-bolt about a third of the way in from eh edge) then to the underside to the towing hooks.

The frame is made from 1by material. two 1x6s are used with foam edging up tight to the car. on is just under the OEM lip/ spoiler the other on is a few inches up from the bottom of the bumper.

Detailed pictures do exist but not online or in my possession
I asked for them to be posted and we will see what comes of it.

As for why the tail was not on when I last saw the car is because the car is not being used much anymore and might be sold. Tail is still around but not in use.

any more details I left out that you might want?

Towing hooks! That makes my life easier. I'm sure i can find a suitable anchor point somewhere. I've been thinking coroplast subskin, with either tape over it or the material he used, and then automotive sign vinyl to make it look really nice. Been thinking more on how easy front wheel skirts and a grill block would be to. All of it wrapped in vinyl.

How legal is that in your area? I could see local authorities making me remove something like that or relocate the tailights. We have a 2' rule here; if its 2 feet past the rear bumper it has to have flags on it.

In Michigan anything over 4' needs flags. Or move the lights back like I did.

amaderasu asked for an update so here it is:

The neighbor sold the car and from what I head kept the tail. He ended up not liking the looks enough to keep the tail on when not commuting long distances and changed to a closer job so the tail just stayed off.

If there is interest I can try to swing by his house next time I am at my parents place and see if I can get a build pics or see if he will sell it......

In the attachment I added a rough sketch of a side view of the tail. Blue is structure. purple is straps running from inside side hooks to the tail and under to the tow points.

If someone really needs help making a copy I can try to guide them through it in person or on the phone or video chat... send me a PM. Others can attest I do not bite

Your neighbour actually registered and posted a for sale ad for the tail... but didn't respond to requests for updates.
