If you attach anything with appropriate fasteners it won't fall off.

However sheet aluminum is hardly much thicker than paper - so you won't need fasteners anywhere near as long as you would with a thicker material. Also sheet aluminum can be bent and even shaped as needed, and it won't crack, break off or catch fire.

The plastic isn't flimsy, my screws just weren't long enough
That's why thinner material is better.

Of course some will always be in denial that there might be a more advantageous alternative than what are currently using because their egos are invested in it.

thyne,
please grow up and remove the personal comments from your posts.
(it's really not about you so quit getting all flamed and out of joint.)
maybe you cna show use detailed pics of your successfull pan?

now back on topic.....
when you see factory pans, you'll notive that the plastic has bumps and curves thru out the piece. this is to create rigidnes into a flat piece of plastic.
Vibrations are created by the plastic because it is flat.
you had several exposed plastic edges that could catch the air.

I have done this successfully over the last 58,000 miles. (not sure how long others have)
I have been to 100 mph successfully.

I believe i have posted a picture where the force of the air peeled back a strip of Gorrilla Glue Duct tape.

I have yet to see a successfull underbelly pan that was made uot of metal.
Why do exrta work to secure a material that is inferior?
my front coroplast panel is 68" x 39" and is only secured with 3 zipties on a piece of aluminuum angle bar.
I cant inagine how thick a piece of metal would need to be to accomplish the same thing.
And why do I want multiple (10-20) mounting points?
If I need to work on it I want it to be easy to remove.

Quote the "personal comments" that are bothering you. There weren't any. Until now, that is, and as you will see below, they are specifically in response to your attitude.

In contrast, the personal comment you posted in reply to me was "get a life".

And now, more recently:

Quote:

The only person here "out of joint' is you, and anyone who reviews the thread can see it. Just because you have no memory (see proof of it below), do you think we are all as brain dead?

Oh, this is SO ironic! OK, here's the original thread with full description and photos of the pan I installed (click here).

And guess who commented on it at the time? YOU! And here's what you said:

nice very clean.

sometimes simplicity is the lesser of two evils.
And now you say:

ROTFLMAO! This speaks for itself.

So now you assume it's a bad idea, and deride using material you insist must be "inferior". But when you paid me the compliment commenting upon my successful application, that was back in the days when you didn't have a nasty retort for everything I say, as you do now. It's obvious you've got a personal grudge against me and you think you know it all, so there is no point in my trying to educate you further. It's also obvious who needs to "grow up", so go look in the mirror.

ps. really the suggestion that you think I 'have nasty comment' for you......well, hope you don't feel bad but if I was asked who posts on ecommoder yesterday, I would have listed:
frank lee
viio
christ
carlos
&
darin.
Seriously.

I post on 3 different and unique forums. I super moderate on one. I work, travel, raise a daughter, sing, etc. The idea that YOU think I give you any concideration (either positeve or negative) is unfortunate for you.
But after 3 yrs & 58,000 miles on a third generation belly pan, I will stand by all comments made on this thread.

No, I refuse to do so. I didn't start this animosity, but I reserve the right to respond to it, measure for measure.

I am not the one trashing "viio's excellent thread". MCrews made this a personal issue and I reserve the right to respond to it. Everything I have said here has been either in an effort to inform or educate and offer alternative methods and materials that might be useful to the OP, or in direct response to the provocative and disparaging remarks made by the one who is disgruntled and acting retributive. MCrews has chosen to make a fool of himself in print and continues to prolong his embarrassment in extending the argument by voicing more irrelevancies. If he drops it I will, but I hardly expect that he will, as he has a personal grievance against me and thinks he will somehow 'win' by having the last word in multiple postings.

His latest drivel:
Quote:
(gosh and to think is was trying to be kind and polite to you......I certainly misjudged you)
MCrews, you have a perverse idea of kindness and politeness, as your adversarial attitude is thinly veiled and obviously quite the opposite. As you admitted, you are a poor judge of character - but I haven't misjudged you.

*sigh*

New fittings on the belly pan are holding up much better at 80mph testing. Will post photos if it's dry at the weekend.

MC and TC, you two need to be big boys and just walk away, like you were taught in kindergarten.

viio, very nice work. I've had very good luck with zip ties and color matched duct tape instead of screws. Have you considered this at all?
