Not to your point, but do they have hospital ships in converted supertankers?

The conspiracy nuts like Benjamin Fulford used to say the future utility for the military would be humanitarian work.

I was listening to the Tuesday podcast of "Make Me Smart" on the way back from work today. (Spin-off of Marketplace and Marketplace Tech)

Anyway the subject was how the IRS will send out money from the recent stimulus bill. The summary:
  1. If you filed your 2018 or 2019 taxes your check will be deposited in the same bank account you used to pay taxes or direct deposit your refund. If you used a paper check you need to give the IRS your bank details so they can direct deposit the money and the will be creating a web portal to do this in the future.
  2. If you receive Social Security you get the money the same way you get your SS check
  3. "Children" 18 or older that are claimed as dependents on someone else's tax return don't get a check
  4. Children under 18 get a $500 check sent to the parent that claimed them as a dependent
  5. If you didn't file a 2018 or 2019 tax return and don't get Social Security you don't get a check.

Over 1,000,000 cases and almost 53,000 deaths

"The U.S. Navy on Thursday relieved the commander of the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt, who wrote a scathing letter that leaked to the public asking for stronger measures to control a coronavirus outbreak onboard his warship." -Reuters

"New York City hospitals and morgues bent under the strain of the coronavirus pandemic on Thursday, struggling to treat or bury casualties, as the state’s governor offered a grim prediction that the rest of the country would soon face the same misery. " -Reuters

Hopefully nowhere else in the U.S. has that issue.

"The United States is paying Russia for a planeload of medical equipment sent by Moscow to help fight the coronavirus outbreak, a senior Trump administration official said on Thursday, clearing up confusion as to who footed the bill." -Reuters

"Brazil faces a tense period in the coming weeks in its battle against the coronavirus, with supplies of medical and protective equipment running low and fresh shipments from China not expected to arrive in the country for another month." -Reuters

Boa sorte!

Oh good. Grammarly auto-corrects, so now I get that drama on my computers!

"6.6 million Americans filed for unemployment last week, by far the biggest surge in U.S. history amid coronavirus shutdown" -BNO News

I tried checking for an update after they said 3.3 million and did not find a newer number.

While talking with my son yesterday, he told me about a client that has trouble getting the masks. He asked if they made coffee and she said, of course. He said try 2 coffee filters with a piece of gauze inside. Just fix a couple rubber bands to it to put over the ears.

My wife is a lifelong retired nurse. I told her and she said, absolutely, beats nothing by a long shot.

New localized startup company, maybe ??

It's promising (as are several other antivirals undergoing trials like remdesivir), but the hospitalization rate (more precisely hospital resource/time usage per case) needs to go down 10x for widespread transmission to be manageable.

Rejecting the null hypothesis is probably possible with the data, but showing 90% efficacy is harder. IIRC the % that can be treated with chloroquine is something like 50% so we still need some other options.

Harold, the cool kids call that a "Coughee filter."

Wait no, dads. Dads call it that.

Vacuum bags are supposed to be as good as N95 filters, but I have not figured out how to make a mask out of them. They are pretty restrictive! I sacrificed one that Mom had. The first thing is that you need to cut along the seam because it will not fold right. I folded it like a car filter, but then it doesn't bend, so what good is it?

Someone posted on Imgur a couple of weeks ago that her husband 3d printed face masks using air conditioner filters, rubber bands, and rubber seals. At least ninety percent of the comments were negative. Supposedly the filter would be adequate, but it wasn't the right style, so people insisted that it was worthless, or somehow worse. The rubber seal had a gap, so viruses would target that and kill the wearer. 3d-printed products weren't airtight. Etc.

I cannot find it now. It shows the different parts and then the weirdo put it on and made a stupid face.

If you made a mask like that and made an air filter using pleated vacuum bags and silicone it should work.

This orthodontist is 3d-printing masks. Undoubtedly this is vastly higher quality than most DIYers could make, but the seal has more gaps!

https://kesq.com/news/2020/04/01/pal...re-workers/#//

These were requested by a hospital, take 3.5 hours to print, and don't have seals:

https://www.kgw.com/article/entertai...-69f7-48cf-9ec

This guy 3d prints on cloth:

This guy reviewed 3d-printed masks, but seems to be wearing one. I am unsure how helpful this video is: Oh great. YouTube is not linking right again.

https://www.mlive.com/news/jackson/2...ing-masks.html

These are custom-made:

https://www.canadianarchitect.com/to...ted-face-mask/

"[P]rimarily acts as a mechanical barrier:"

https://engineering.rowan.edu/resear...ask/index.html

No face seal, but the zip tie probably secures the filter better than other methods:

https://patch.com/new-york/brentwood...sks-3d-printer

I found tons more, far more than when I looked into this a week or two ago.

There must be a solution!
