You wouldn't have to.

Each would control an axle. You would need to be able to send throttle information to each.

One way to do it would be to leave the gas engine system controlled by accelerator and then have a separate throttle for the EV system. For example, a hand control, trigger on the stick-shift, etc.

The EMIS system uses control box that plugs into the OBD2. Signal from the OBD2 is translated into a throttle control signal to the EV controller.

The vehicle wouldn't care if it were pushed by a motor on the rear axle, or pulled by a gas engine on the front, or both at the same time.

I'm pretty sure a Tracker is RWD so it would be a lot easier to make the front electric. Just loose the transfer case and get a driveshaft for a 2WD Tracker. I think there are some small SUV's though that are FWD primarily if you wnted to make the thing do burnouts with the electric motor.

an idea that I have been considering, is a synergy drive type system where the clutch of a standard transmission is replaced with a planetary gear set. The ICE would then be set to a constant RPM that would be its optimum efficiency, all that would require is that the correct resistor replace the accelerator position sensor. Then the motor would determine speed without need to talk to the ice.

Could you think of a way that I could power that front driveshaft by the electric motor at some moments but switch to the ICE when real 4x4 is needed?
