88.8% over this fill,
up 2 to 13th in team VW,
and 18th on POE list,

FINALLY on top of the team average, pulled the average up about .15, no position change(#&^%$* team Honda).

redyaris, what do you think, which is (more) off: Gray's odometer or google maps?
I just had a look at your log (what else could I do at the end of a night shift?) and I see that on your last trip there was a considerable difference.
I see the same phenomenon with Teresa, and all other sources I can check consistently imply that it's her odo that's off: google maps, road signs, Ciliegia's odo, and even her own odo before the tire change... which seemed already off to begin with. That's why I use that magic 1% correction lately (a very conservative estimation). I'd like to check it with GPS, but it seems it won't happen with this crappy software of my phone. Anyway my commute is 1.6% longer by google maps than Teresa shows it (24.8 vs 24.4km).

Over that trip of yours the difference was 3.5% - quite serious.

Just my .02 cents.

This competition would be more accurate if the results would be sorted by % over EPA - not like now by 90 day FE.

In a sense, you're right. EPA+ is what measures your hypermiling skill and efforts.
In another sense, it's the best to earn the absolute best average.
And ultimately, the best is to use no fuel, so the very best don't have averages at all

Not really.
There's obviously different ways to look at it.

The % over EPA says nothing about the actual fuel use.
My measly 12% over "EPA" (or rather NEDC) doesn't look like much, but it translates to 52.5mpg, which looks a tad better.

The EPA numbers are just the result of a test.
Or a calculation based on the results of the old EPA test.
Plenty of European cars don't have an EPA result but use the EU numbers from a different test (which is far harder to beat).

If anything, the best value we could look at and compare, is consumed energy/distance, as the energy in different fuels is also different.

And motorcycles often don't have any.

I, for example, couldn't find official tests for a BMW F650CS, so I just used the 90km/k (3l/100km) and 120km/h (4.5l/100km) rating given by BMW. I'd happily use proper data if I could.
