The Charger spends a lot of time in the garage lately. His daily is a 2019 Silverado that has cylinder deactivation so it can get 40mpg. And it had a backup camera above the trailer hitch that draws yellow lane markers that swing side-to-side when you turn the steering wheel.

I guess it's not always that such rig would reach 40MPG, plus those 10-speed transmissions might play a greater role on that matter.

A young man in an SRT ought to feel real good in a Ghia tricked-out like this one. Beautful little hot rod, that:

But you have to love the old ones! The W123 and W124 with OM 600 series diesel engines. Those are the real eco cars, doing 50 MPG for a million miles. There is nothing more reliable (and therefore ecological) than an old diesel Merc, they just last forever.
Don't know if they were sold in the US … Almost all European W123 are now exported to the Middle East and Africa, but I still see the W124 regularly here with incredible mileages.

Those are famiiliar models, but I have just never prefered them. They have different cultural meaning here. I like BMW and Audi less, if that means anything. I have a soft spot for the old Beetles and Ghias. There was a recent, really sleek design period to the Mercedes sedans and coupes that I liked a lot... something like a 2010 CLS 550 or something... very much the bar of soap look. Simple, sleek, and elegant.

Understandable. Here it is a symbol of anti-materialism in our consumer society. But that only applies to the models from the late 70s, 80s and early 90s.
