It's like the unintended consequences are having (doubly) unintended consequences.

It turns out while humans might affect earthquakes, they are effected by Solar activity. There is an ongoing quake watch at supicious0bservers. Actually it's at www.earthwatch.com*, but it's all Ben Davidson.

*I hope that works better for you than me. My ISP, Centurylink captures a perfectly formed URL, complete to http:etc., and drops it into a search field for me to click again. I call shenanigans. No way I'm touching that. I was hoping the link would work from a Post Preview window, but Centuryclink again!

passed the 2016 peak?

^ with fuel so expensive in many other parts of the world, it does makes you wonder why the biggest contingent of members on the forum is from the U.S.

---

Have we passed the peak for this year../

US gas prices hit 2.39 a couple of weeks ago, and have been falling ever since.

The multi-year AAA graph a few posts back shows the typical trend is a peak in June / July.

I'm not convinced this year's graph will be typical though. US crude production has been dropping for a few months, and stockpiles are starting to be consumed from record highs.

How are fuel taxes calculated down there?

G'day darcane,
I dont know how they calculate how much to tax the fuel but i know its like ''lets see how much tax we can squeeze out of those suckers that drive cars'', before my present car i had diesel cars but gave up on them as now it cost an extra 10 cents per mile in road tax on a diesel car and that has to be payed in advance +to register a diesel car did cost 140 dollars extra for some stupid reason. now ive got a petrol/gas car that does the same mileage on fuel but on those the road tax is included in the petrol/gas price.
Diesel is about $1.06 per litre = about 4.02 dollars per US gallon.
Petrol is about $1.86 per litre = about 7.05 dollars per US gallon.
Greetings,
Eddie.
P.S. i made a mistake in my earlier post, sorry about that,

-1M barrels per day

U.S. oil production has been declining for a year now (mostly tight oil / fracking) .

It peaked at a record high last June at 9.6 million barrels/day. It's now at 8.6 million/day, down just over 10%

Crude oil stockpiles have also started to decline from record highs:

None of which means anything if U.S. drillers are able to re-start production quickly if oil prices start rising again.
