I definitely notice that longer glides give better FE (but haven't gotten all the data to thouroughly quantify it). Some of that I'm sure comes from the slower vehicle speed, some of it I would imagine also comes from the "lost" momentum energy that happens on every shutdown and the required re-start energy.

Nice. With my old transmission--the stock DX with moderately short gearing--I had a similar discovery using engine-on P&G. But the benefit was only about 14% (engine on). Here is the link: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...tml#post252933

I remember that. The extra 6% makes sense to me. The civic is more aerodynamic than the Fit, so it suffers less at highway speeds (so glides better). It's also running 2500 rpm at 60 instead of the Fit's 2900. As mentioned earlier (and as you WELL know), better gearing brings the steady speed closer to p&g.

I'm tempted to go that way, but here it takes something like an act of whatever god you may prefer to be allowed to change the final drive ratio : i.e. VW approval

Gearing makes a big difference. With the long 6th in the Jetta, I only turn 1600 RPM at 60 mph. P+G is pointless for me at highway speeds (though I use it a lot on back roads).

Wow, my rpms at 60mph are around 3,000! That means I would benefit more from P&G then correct?
