Ingenius! Simple materials, novel application.

For some reason I can't understand, I had never seen this thread. Nice job! Your top hinged skirt design will be very practical when changing tires.

It's a plastic corner bead fer archways. It's cut on the one side so you can shape it. It costs about $3 at Home Depot fer a 10' long section. You should be able to find it along side with the other drywall corner bead stuff.

The air can't just tumble in immediately, and since it's longitudinal flow is maintained longer along a solid surface, when it does run out of skirt, and stumble into the void, the void is smaller, and so the perturbation should be smaller as well, with easier downstream recovery when it see's the surface rear of the tire.

Just so everyone knows...when I did my partial wheel skirts along with my other mods...I got my best MPG last year at almost 35mpg at 65mph. My best before that was 28mpg. My truck is rated at 19mpg.
Right side buttoned up...
Front view...
Rear view...
Left side rear view...
I'll eventually trim it down to the outline of the wheel well and fab up a separate brackets fer the front and back sides. To lift it fer access to the tire will require the removal of 2 screws and 2 bolts.

Had a chance to build the front support fer the rear wheel skirts...
Used some PVC pipe and a 12" metal Simpson Strong-tie strap.
Looking to git a few aluminum yardsticks to use as the shaped support fer the rear wheel skirts so I can lose the wire and add extra support across the skirts. Should be cheap enough and easy to shape.
Here's the right rear wheel skirt...it was rubbing in a few places.
