wow thanks David! I hear what you're saying that they don't violate any electrical laws but something has to give. I don't know much on the topic but I'd say insulation rating is the first thing that will go when removing copper from a motor. Won't the reduced resistance, ie: added current flow, heat the coils beyond their insulation rating and cause a meltdown somewhere? I guess I should read some more on that forum since they are actually achieving something with their mods.

If their modifications hold true, I guess that would be one way to buy a lightweight motor and soup it up to max hp. Boy, just typing that sends chills down my spine. Something has to give somewhere... well, I'm off to read that thread.

Regards,
JR

What do people think of this as an IGBT six pack for a car? I'd be concerned that 200a wouldn't be enough for an AC based system.

6 pack IGBT

came from an idea one of the AEVA members had: The Australian Electric Vehicle Asn: IGBT Group buy for open source controllers

It would do wonders for building a prototype, but underpowered for a real EV controller. I think 300 AMP modules would be minimum and 400+ AMP the preferred size. Although, that 200 AMP 6 pack would be a great start to a prototype, and it's so inexpensive and would work for my ACGTX20. Damn, and I just canned the money for my AC controller prototype and built a new EV battery rack.....

That looks great if your target voltage is in the higher range (ie: less current needed). However, I'd be concerned with heat dissipation as you have all three switches bunched up onto one die. I suppose it would work for a smaller 3ph motor.

Now, the other IGBT modules this same seller has are really looking good to me. 600V, 400A and 2.2v max 1.6V typical Vsat. I'm going to get his 8x modules package. We only need 3 for this project but I'll need the rest to blow them up as I will undoubtedly do....

Thanks for the link!

So if you guys are interested, I have dealt with that guy in the past. Just recently purchased another lot of IGBT's from him. He usually gives me a good deal because I buy so many at a time.

When they come in, I match them in sets the best I can and then ship them off to my customers.

If there is interest, I can buy more. I just need the money up front, but Im getting closer to having stock of them.

Let me know. 28 in a case. I have about another 1/3rd case worth of people waiting for the next order.

I sell them for $30 a piece, plus shipping. I have to start limiting to the US though, Its too much for me to ship internationally. I might be able to work something out, but it will be a few dollars each module more. Sorry

Gotta say (as I mentioned on my blog), I'm following this with interest... Though it has to be said it seems to have died recently... Anyone would think Paul had a life or something.

Don't worry, I don't have a life. hahaha. My lack of life is focused in the bms/charger/sr controller/generator arena right now for a 3 wheeled "volt" sort of car for Tinitron(series hybrid):
Local Company Debuts 3-Wheeled, Hybrid Car - Video - KPTV Portland

I started this thread and then was asked to on that sort of out of nowhere. I'm getting close to being done with it though.

^.^... Well a lot of us are cheering ya on.(Well. At least I am xD) I would say you have no idea how useful your awesome fiddlings are for the rest of us. XD But I'm quite certain you do. They're quite something to follow and have some wonderful practical uses... *insert "evil" plotting hands here*

*drools waiting for beautiful pretty schematics... will be waiting and drooling as long as said takes XD*

Nothing quite like DIY electronics... particularly if ya manage to make them cost-saving xD

What schematic program should I use?

I have been doing more work on the power section design, but I won't have time to do more testing for a few weeks. But I will have some time to get schematics made for the power section and post what I got.

My power section section will be completely independent of the logic, and it should be able to power up to the 600 AMP CM600HA IGBT modules. My testing will be a light load trying out the dual CM300DU I have, and the two CM600HA I have.
