I certainly appreciate Ben's efforts, and I certainly don't think my avatar is appropriate for anything but a good laugh.

Before everyone jumps on board with the fist and lightning bolt, I hope everyone is aware of certain similarities to a controversial political symbol.

communist fist - Google Image Search

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, and I'm not trying to offend anyone, especially Ben who I respect greatly. Unfortunatly there is little doubt that some people will take great offense at the similarity and potential symbolism of the particular logo being proposed. We should be trying to rally everyone of every political persuasion to EV's, not associate EV's with controversial political statements.

Just my opinion, of course.

Ya, slurry, I have thought about that. Actually, not so much from the picture, but from the name "open revolt" which always made me feel a bit "1917 revolutionary". Is there a way to make open revolt not sound communist? hehe. We could add a disclaimer:

Open ReVolt! The Open Source Motor Controller Project!

*By the way, we don't want to execute you for your religious beliefs.

hahaha!

Do you have these in vector format? I can create some 2D (maybe 3D) GCode for CNC engraving on the endcaps). Just did a engraving on some Lexan yesterday ... that stuff cuts nice and clean.

WTF slurry?

1. A fist holding a lightning bolt, to symbolize "the peoples controller" is entirely appropriate.

2. This is an international forum.

3. Open source is incredibly social in nature, and not the kind you need to be afraid of or offended by.

just my opinion of course.

just my opinion of course.

You make valid points, but my point is that the fist symbol is destined to be offensive to many of the people we probably hope to attract to EV's.

I'm suggesting that the logo be politically neutral as it relates to all known political parties. It need not be patriotic for or against any particular country to keep it international.

I thought that this project was a ReVolt against petrolium fueled vehicles, not another type of revolt. Perhaps I am mistaken?

If it helps you, think of it as a fist pump after a successful coup Still, people will look for political "stuff" everywhere (as evidenced by the Google image link you provided.) There is nothing political about making an open source project and Paul's interview explains his motivations. I think others that are helping just want to be part of something great that Paul has done.

I can create a vectorized version of the logo for use with engraving. We would just have to decide which version is the favorite - looks best, most readable, etc.

If a fist is considered offensive, I think all the electricians in my area who have similar logos on their trucks are in trouble.
