right click on my computer>properties>hardware>device manager, and look at ports. it will tell you what com port your serial port is.

All my ports are RIM virtual ports, USB. The choices I get from Realterm match the ports my laptop has 13,14,15,16,& 17. Only com 3 works in that CTS and DSR go green.

What is the serial adaptor that you are using??

I think that might be the problem.

I did a search of "serial adaptor" in my computer and it returns with "no matches" found. I'm running "Vista"

Flatman, right click "my computer"
choose properties.
go to the "hardware" tab
click "device manager"
look for "ports, com & lpt"
click the + next to them.

it will show you what com ports you have installed.

i believe that will work for vista.

edit: or just search for "device manager"

Hi Caspar, Looking in the device area I have ports 13 through 20 loaded. I have been trying to create a com 1 without success. I think I'll find an older computer, maybe an old desk top to get over this obstacle. I'm at work now which will give me a chance to colaberate with others about this.

Thanks for the input.

Question on the Caps - is there any reason that we're using 16x 820uF instead of less higher capacity ones?
