A company thru alibaba has 600v 600a igbts for $120 each. They are probably counterfeit, but I was still tempted to buy one and takenit apart to compare with one I have.

This one will work right?

SKM400GB12T4 - SEMIKRON - IGBT MODULE, DUAL N CH, 1.2KV | Farnell Nederland

If you buy more than 10 they aren't that expensive..

Would the integrated gate resistor matter?

Those would be good. I've used that company's igbts for my job.

Its crazy how much the prices went up on the CM600DY-12NF modules.
Even the counterfeit ones are twice the price the genuine ones were a few months ago.

I am tempted to get some of the CM400DU-12NF modules from allpraisebob on eBay before they are all gone but i can't think what i need them for.

If you get one to take apart is it able to be put back together or is it a destructive taking apart?
I see some screws on the casing but i have gone to fix things before that had screws only to find they also had glue holding them together. Quite frustrating when you take out all the screws and the thing refuses to break apart.
Maybe i need a weirding module. I have often done a perfect Herato impersonation trying to fix things.

The 600v 400amp ones can be taken apart nondestructively. I've actually done it. It's pretty awesome. It looks like you can reach right in and touch some wires that go all over the place, but then your hand hits a perfectly clear rubbery gel. You do have to bend the 3 tabs a little bit to slide the plastic cover off once the screws are out, but it didn't hurt anything.

It looks so distinctive, that I seriously doubt a counterfeit would mimic it perfectly.

But would you be able to tell apart a 600A or 100A? I recon the counterfeit are rebadged low amp versions?

Did you make solar inverters out of them?

Hmm... That's a good point. I need to get a real one of each power level, completely dissect it, and tell alibaba (and the 40 thieves) that I'm going to open their igbt and compare it to the real one, and then post all over the internet if theirs are fake. I wonder if that would help.

yes on the solar inverter. A 3 phase solar inverter, that can take 48v to 800v input, and 3 phase sine wave output.

I wish. It's actually a new kind of inverter that doesn't use pwm. It was supposed to only give constant output AC voltage for a constant input, but I invented a sneaky way to get a variable input voltage. It's one of the things I'm most proud of, but I'm not allowed to say how! haha And the efficiency isn't really affected much by the different input voltage levels.
