Maybe we should get together and make a show called THE CAR OF TODAY.
It bugs me a bit that programs like this always talk about cars that are coming, but they are too expensive or the batteries aren't quite right yet.
It's crazy that I can bolt together a cycle in my garage that is zero emissions, or that somebody can mod a Geo to get 100 MPG, but we can't go out and buy a really decent car.
We really need a Model-T of the Future, and I have the feeling it is going to come out of an ecomodder's garage.

Seems to me, one could start with an off-the-shelf dune buggy or somesuch, then mod it with the best of Hucho and ideas/hardware shamelessly taken from a Prius, etc.. Aim for ~1,200 lbs. empty weight.
For a basic commuter vehicle (1 person aboard, plus a bit of space for briefcase or groceries) use a Streamliner HPV shell, add electrical drive and current batteries. A Streamliner should go probably 4X as far as a typical electrical bicycle, due to radically reduced drag.

This is a SERIOUSLY good idea. After seeing the PBS show -- which was nothing compared to Discovery Channel's Future Car Series -- I'm convinced we could make a show and sell it at a profit, using a college kid with a camera. It would make a seriously interesting reality show documetary.

Not saying I am free of fault, but these documentaries just enrage me. It's been possible for decades and no one wants to do it for matter of convenience or because of aesthetics.
Also, how about all the energy they waste filming in exotic locations?
Arminius, if you need a camcorder I've got a Sony Digital 8.

Thanks. I'll probably never do it, but I have a friend who has produced a couple of major films.

I've got a professional 3-Chip camera and Final Cut Pro.
Maybe we could do something besides just chit-chat at HybridFest.
It would be a great opportunity for interviews and vehicle footage.
We could crank out a documenty and sell it on DVD or just post to the web to get it out there.
