Resting my brain on it now

Grommets came in the mail, so I have material and I think a reasonable plan. Time to step back from this for about a week, traveling to Indianapolis on Sunday for work. Maybe Black Friday I pull off a wheel and take some pics as I give it a go.

Does your Malibu have a factory FE gauge for some ABA testing?

Just an overly optimistic avg, need to get an sg or ug for sure. I think it would be interesting to do. I found OEM one is about 10% high. My fuel log is reflecting a more accurate truth now that I am ignoring it. I do reset it on the fly for fun. Seems like mid to high 30's when I am doing 65 to 70? I heard TC lockup and 4th gear are good on my car, v6 spins around 2000 rpm at those speeda.

But I will not believe that my fe is that good at those speeds so I want an SG for help me.

My Impala has same size engine, it's gauge is pretty accurate, I've had some 35 mpg 60 mile trips (holding it to 55 mph). Doesn't really matter if guage is accurate or not, if it give consistant numbers it will allow you to calculate percent change. I don't know the RPM off hand but would speculate it's the same gearing as yours.

Cold weather is pull both of our number down, last 3 tanks on the Cobalt all under 40 mpg.

I found no issues with corrosion with alum wheels and ss bolts. Just take them out every month to check tire pressure and you are fine.

If you want to see how they are look like first/ want help with yours I am not that far away (midland) if you want to meet.

I am going to add pics to first post as I start the dirty work next week, Friday hopefully. My dad happens to have a tapping handle, so once I borrow that I should be good.

Very kind of you to offer your time WS. I will have to take it up hopefully at some sort of Michigan meetup with whoever else would be interested, maybe in the Spring? Good brewery in Frankenmeuth...

I am using grommets to keep my air valves accesible, but I will be able to inspect the back studs every tire rotation.

I picked up a 100 pack of the nylon lock nuts, so I can replace them from time to time since the nylon only works a few times from what I read soemwhere.

Little Bavaria is a nice tourist trap town. But it is in a good spot for a meet. Do we want to plan on for spring time ?

Any news/update on the wheel covers? All four made it on the car?
