What do you think of it so far?

So it pays for itself in ~4 years (not counting other Insight related expenses). And you get to have fun. And you save wear and tear on the truck. Solid rationalization!

I've wondered about the collector potential of these cars, and I can't decide which way they might go. On one hand, I'd lean toward them not becoming collector cars because they're so nerdy - sex sells better than nerdy. On the other hand, Honda fans can be a rabid bunch, so that tilts things back toward possible collector car status. Some Honda fans seem to really like tiny, unique and rare (like the 600's).

The asking prices will definitely go up with fuel prices, that much is for sure. I could make a tidy profit on mine if I decided to sell (haven't decided ).

In my view, sexy increases in value over time; technology does not. The Insight is a technology car, and as such, will likely not become a desirable collectable. Besides, nobody cares how good the fuel economy is on a car that isn't driven.

Now that you have one, can you keep an eye out for one for sale for me? I wonder if they came with cd players instead of cassette tapes?

Also, I noticed that on the drivers side panel, there are small removable covers for optional accessories. Any idea what they are for?

The small covers are on the dash by the turn signal. Probably just an accessory location. Maybe for fog lights, etc.?

yes those little panels are pretty classic of honda on other models they are block off plates for lower trim levels that dont come with cruise, fogs, dimmers and so on. but on the insight i believe the only options it ever had in its 6 year run was manual/cvt, ac/no ac and the disc changer. so to answer your question i have no idea why the block offs are there that would be a question to ask Honda haha.
