Sandy Munro tears down Teslas and reports on what it takes to make them. He says that Tesla have brought aerospace technology (tolerances in the thousands) to the automotive industry (tolerances in the hundreths). The rear lower body of the [Model 3?] was reduced from 70 pieces to two with a major casting.

At least the aerodynamics seem greatly enhanced, to an extent the ICE would most likely not allow.

Except when it comes to panel gaps.
Ba-dum-dum.
I do remember watching Sandy's response to the over-complicated design of the rear wheel well area of the early Model 3.

I haven't seen more than 3 Teslas on the wild, but it didn't seem to have oversized panel gaps.

Even Tesla's own press release photo of their production Model Y had unusual gap/alignment of the hood.
I've only looked closely at one Model 3 in the wild. It was fine.

The closest I looked were Model X, a grey and a white ones. Have seen a red Model S once, but not too close.

The worst panels gaps I ever saw were on a Lotus (Esprit?). I don't know if it came from the factory that way, or was repaired, though.
The real magic is in the drivetrain though. Jack Rikard spun one up and it coasted to a stop in 15 minutes.

It was a Lotus, it came from the factory that way. Getting into an accident and having it repaired could only improve the fitment on those cars!

The Elise was on my list back when I had to replace my totalled Subaru Legacy. Panel gaps would have been a minor annoyance compared to other "features" of the car. Also on my list back then:
Chevy Metro
Corolla
DeLorean
Tacoma
Outback
Lexus IS250
Kinda all over the place. Ended up getting the TSX. Can't believe it's been a decade already.
